1992 J reg HONDA NSR NSR125 FOR SALE, it is full flaired, excellent bike and very quick,m.o.t failer due to fork seals, reason for sale is that after the pre m.o.t i was caught doing 110 mph on the motor way back from the m.o.t station. For further details please e-mail.

£450.00 or reasonable offer

It doesn't tell you much about the bike and he has no pictures, I have emailed asking for more details and pictures but he said his camera is broken and asked what it is exactly i want to know.

Should i avoid this one like the plague?

110 mph seems a bit hard to reach on a 125, and if it was possible a bit odd to be doing it on the way home from an mot failure.

Dont give him anything until you see the bike, wether it be a picture or the bike itself.

Ok, first off, fork seals will probably cost something like £90 or more to get done, thats assumeing there isn't more that needs doing...
Second, 110? unless he weighs 4 stone its unlikely, obviously its had a hard life and could be on the verge of explodeing, if an nsr expert was to come with you to look it might be worth it, otherwise i'd be hesitant personally...

By the way, if the MOT has expired you can legaly ride it (as far as i remember) IF your riding it to the MOT place, so if its booked in then your ok to ride it (obviously with the usual insureance and tax e.t.c.).

You'd want the millage, MOT certificates, Reg documents and recipts for any rebuilds done... if he dont have either of the first three the leave it well alone, also do a HPI check before buying it could be on finance still...

Maybe its genuine, i prefer to be paranoid its cheeper Razz

Seriously, an NSR125 wouldn't do 110mph if you pushed it off a cliff.

If by some miracled it *did* ever get up to 110, I can tell you he must have absolutely thrashed the arse off it. I can't see it being in very good shape if he's ridden it like that very often.

Why worry about the thrashing bit?

That's all you can do on a 2 stoke 125, surely?

Assuming you can do the fork seals yourself then they will cost you about £15 to replace. If you can't then expect to pay for a couple of hours labour on top.

110mph - no chance. So the guy can talk some crap. Other than that check that it's in good condition (especially the front wheel bearings, although this isn't too important if the speedo still works) and that all the docs are present. Still - £450 is VERY cheap.

Obviously its not incorrect if he was clocked by the police Razz
Just get some more info about the bike and take a look for yourself.
You never know, it could be a good buy.

Thrashing is fair enough though if I saw that ad it would strike me like he had it flat out from cold every day and it might not be the best looked after, but you never know.

The NSR cannot do 110mph - so obviously the guy was not clocked by the police going that fast.

If you fit a 14-inch front wheel* the bike will instantly "do" 150mph. If you take the front wheel off and run it on the brake disc* it will do 188mph, and if you take the front disc off and let it run on the front wheel bearings* it will do an astounding 1428mph (nearly twice the speed of sound). All without changing a sprocket*. Amazing.

(*Serving suggestion. Don't run with scissors or try this at home)

The figures claimed on the website (as I'm sure Korn and Zimma will tell you) are not entirely accurate.

I.e. - they are wrong. None of the road 125's will do 110mph without quite a bit of tuning work.

I have no reason to lie as I haven't even rode a bike in over 7 years, dont own one now, but felt compelled to respond to this......I had an F reg NS125R and it reached 110. It was very easy to do and cost nothing whatsoever.

Firstly I did as that link mention and removed the restrictor from the down pipe. This acheived mid 90's. Then a friend kindly put a chisel through the tail can (whilst I was not there - cant believe he did it really, but it was my intention to get a micron anyway). I was kind of desperate for more power though. Voila....110 and it sounded like the old RD250lc's and ate every 125 I came across.

It would go straight into the red line and scream like crazy...not surprising that it seized a good'n within a matter of weeks. But my god....what a buz....

(Also, I had a Ram Air or K&N with larger jets - fitting this made it sound worse and perform less - the standard air filter seemed to match it perfectly).

Before anybody says it cant be done..blah, blah blah...have you tried it?

A friend also had an old RD125lc but with Mallosi 180, that done 115+

If the guy selling this bike *is* telling the truth then this is what the bike has been through, which seems a good reason to avoid buying from him Confused

All speedo's over read. An indicated 110mph is more likely around the 100mph mark.

The RD125LC speedo was notoriously inaccurate. At that indicated speed (well, where that speed would be on the speedo it it read that high) it would have been unlikely to have reached 100mph (standard top speed of a full power RD125LC was 87mph).

All the best

Think he means the old Malossi 180cc big bore kit. That would certainly have pushed it over the ton Very Happy

Hi

Years back there was a very heavily tuned RD125LC in Performance Bikes. It was managing about the same indicated top speed being claimed here, but the actual top speed was 97mph.

All the best
