Ive looked but not found anything on google...

Iv'e just got myself and am wireing up two 55watt fogs, i know for a fact these will pass an mot if they are wired to the mainbeam circuit... my question is if they have their own switch and can be turned on anytime (obviously when visibility is bad enough) will they be ok?

also kev mentioned provided a horn is a single continuous tone its perfectly road legal, is this 100% defenate? i'm thinking two tone horns wich have a compressor cost about £20 from auto stores..

the dvla didn't seem to say anything about aux lighting or horn regs, only that it should have them...

If you have the lights wired through an independent switch, then the switch must illuminate when the lights are turned on, and if they are intended as fog lights then there are minimum and maximum distances from the ground that must be complied with (and I don't have the measurements here at home) and this same regulation applies if they are independent driving lights.

As far as the horn is concerned, you can have two tones but they must give one constant tone, in other words you can not have any tune or any emergency vehicle sounding note otherwise you are looking at a level 2 penalty (£500 + fine + possible disqual + points).

ooooh riiiight,

yep the box says fogs so... well according to the box they state...

Quote:
The lamps must be mounted symetricaly; the same hight from the road and the same distance from the sides of the vehacle.

The lamps should be fitted on the outer edges no more than 400mm from the outer edge, max height above ground 1200mm

All weather lamps should only be used in seriously reduced visibility

So if i wire them only to come on with the main beam them the light on the dash will suffice? i.e. i can use a switch with no light on it?

As for the horn, yes they are constant afaik, just both a low and high tone at the same time, and if they arent they will be going straight back!.

I will also have to phone up the insureance company and let them know...

I will be useing them mainly in winter, seeing as i spend 60% of my rideing time in the dark in the colder months on empty country roads, these will hopefully make a big difference to my late 70's lighting Shocked
