Hi All,

I am on A2 and will be soon be buying sv650 so will need to either restrict it or take das

i have read that you can get ecu for around £40-50 which is restricted to 33bhp but don't know where to get it from

the second option is to take the exam . if i buy the bike and ride it to the test center to take the exam using the restrictor and then change the ecu in there , would that be acceptable ?
basically what i am asking is , is it possible to take the exam on my own bike without hiring one ?

i guess my insurance insure me for 33bhp bike so when i change the ecu in there i am no longer insured, correct ?

btw, what changes on a restricted bike, is it the acceleration or top speed , struggling to pick up ...?

thanks all

Get the bike, ride it restricted for a week, then decide.

You would probs end up wanting to do DAS.

How long would you be restricted for, have you just passed?

I always feel like I should care more about this 33hp restriction, I have had had my licence for a year and 2 months and in that time have had 3 bikes all over 33hp and none have been restricted, never had a single problem. 10 more months to go haha

The police in this area seem pretty laid back about it, i have never been pulled over or asked for it, and the only policeman i have really spoken to since passing (Someone rang them and said i was speeding in a 20mph zone along the seafront, when i was in fact doing about 15mph) about bike related things never mentioned it, we actually ended up talking about smaller number plates Smile

Touch wood it has been fine so far, and i have always hated the idea of splashing out money to make my bike lose about 2 thirds of it's power.

Several friends of mine have gone through the entire 2 year restriction period with no restriction and have been pulled over without it ever being mentioned.

I know it only takes the one time but i don't want to poodle around with 33hp, or pay just to have a piece of paper.
