hi all

not sure anyone has had this or will be able to help but thought I'd try !

My NSR exhaust has some very small movement on the manifold, this causes a horrid rattle/vibration between 4000 and 6000 revs, before that it;s fine so short shifting sorts it or riding him at high revs 6000 to red line the sounds are fine and he pulls like he's on nitro !, I wasn;t sure when I got him if he was de-restricted but after reading all your posts I can safely assume he is !.

I've had it in the garage for a new gasket and the make sure all is attached, tight and in place but the problems come back again after about 20 miles, just running out of ideas to sort the problem.

So if anyone has had, heard, of this or may have any ideas on what I could try be very much appreciated.

Ian

Obviously check that all the bolts are tight, also on the mountings there are rubber grommits, I suppose these will help with vibration. They are on the mounting that is part of the centre stand, and the one that joins the can to the frame near the rear brake. Check they are in place and the bolts are tight.

If the rattling is coming from the exhaust header, it was probably reassembled without an exhaust gasket. Pull it apart and see.

Hi all

Thanks you guys for the help, well I think (crossed fingers and toes) I've fixed him !

Thought I'd do a reply so if any of my fellow NSR owners have the same problems may give some direction on possible solutions.

This is just what happened to me so please don't shoot me and will not ness. be the same solution !

Checked all the bolts and found the back one was fine with rubber grommet but the mid section one, some muppet had botched it without the rubber bit, this meant that the manifold and bracket would rattle around and has caused massive wear in the manifold bolts, clasp type ring and copper type gasket. I've remade a new rubber bit for the mid section bolt and put on but the damage that was done to the exhaust and outlet from the engine was to much just to re-assemble. I had to shave off about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mm from the spacer sections on the clamp ring (angle grinder did the trick) then re-assemble the unit but using some instant gasket liquid (got from halfords £2/3). put on both sides of the gasket, them re-assembled, this stuff is specialy made for non-perfect metal surfaces. Takes about 2 hrs to set.

Hope this helps somebody one day if anyone has the same problem !

Feel free to drop me a line !

Ian
Once again guys thanks for the tips, much appreciated
