B1H Damping/Spring Rates

Might be buying a ZX6R B1H (2004) model

I've never ridden one but I know they were criticised for the rear suspension being too firm so I have a couple of questions:-

Most of the criticism is from road based reviews but this will be a track bike so I would want it pretty firm. Do they work on track on the standard suspension or is it still necessary to look at changing the rear spring or the whole shock for a lightish rider?

I found a review from an American website where they suggested that the damping rates had been changed from the 03 to the 04 model which improved it. I can't find any other reference to this from a quick search so is it bollocks?
