The evening class is accountancy / finance so that's a no-goer.

I forgot to mention the only place I can go before this evening is Tesco.

Under the circumstances I think I've excelled myself. I've bought a card (with a badge, everyone likes a good badge*) and a cake and some candles.

Load her into the car, put my bag in the boot, come out with a candle-lit cake. She'll think I'm a magician and instantly want a length.**
