I'm 17 and I'm struggling to pass my mod 2, I've attempted it 5 times but keep making stupid mistakes Mad I had a 2 hour lesson after I failed the third test and the instructor said I did nothing wrong, but on the actual tests I make mistakes.

So if I don't pass before the law changes I think I'll have to do the light bike test? If so is that the same as mod 2 just I'll still only be allowed a 125?

Thanks

All the tests are the same irrespective of what you do them on. And, yes, you'll be stuck on the 125 until you take another test.

Are you getting too nervous on your tests? I've heard taking Kalms, starting a couple of days before, have helped some people. That or get shitfaced

Hmmm... yes, after Jan 19th, tsting on a 125 gets you an A1 only licence instead of full A >33, but the tests are still the same.

SOUNDS though like the old bug-bear of test nerves, and 'putting on a show for teacher'.

Let me explain; riding for the instructor, or for yourself, you do everything pretty much of a much 'right'.

Test.. "Oh NO! Scary man with clip-board for personality! MUST impress him! Good enough is not good enough! Has to be PERFECT!"

And instead of doing what you do every day... you do stuff DIFFERENT.

Why? What you were doing was good enough?

Becouse you dont THINK its good enough... that's why!

And the examiner sees some-one lacking in confidence, and putting on a performance, NOT showing them honestly how they ride, making stupid mistakes and generally NOT gettying the idea...

Chjap doesn't expect to see a perfect texty-book ride; bloke wants to see you do what you NORMALLY do.... if its bot up to par he'll soon tell you....

SO.... relax.....

STOP THINKING - START RIDING

And just do what you NORMALLY do! Oh... and keep hammering the DSA bookings site twice a day for cancelations to get your test ahead of the 19th if you can!

Just a case of keep plugging away at it until you nail it dude. If you manage to get it done before jan you will just be restricted for 2 years then automatic full power but if you leave it until after then you will need to sit 3 tests before being unrestricted. Real pain in the ass.

My instructor said that he wouldn't put me forward for my test if he didn't think I was ready. What this did was make my lessons feel like tests (assessments) so come the actual test it was not so different from what I had been doing all along. Smile

If you don't pass before next January 19th, you might as well forget about it until you turn 19 and then get yourself the new A2 category on a bigger bike.

Sounds like you're just pissing money away on lessons at this point. It's not your instructor who's sitting the test, it's entirely down to you.

I think I'll give it one more go, but I know on the tests I'm not riding normally so next time ill try and relax a bit more.

I've only had a one hour lesson so far I did book two but the instructor said I didn't really need it.

There's your clue Thumbs Up

Can you really afford not to pass it? I'd be getting as many lessons booked up asap mate!

Good luck.

Thumbs Up

That sounds Sooooooooo familiar..... one more try? if at first you don't succeed... try try again... keep plugging away.

It will be test nerves and trying too hard, and trying to put on a show. HOW you get your head in the right place, I cant say, but, mark all the 'idiots' on the road, that try and kill you, and ponder, THEY have got a licence, it cant be THAT hard!

And reality is it ISN'T. They dont need to see a test-book ride from an expert rider; ALL they need to see is a 'safe' and 'legal' one, with confidence that that is how you normally ride.

You ent dead, so you must be doing something 'right', & instructor comments support that, so its GOT to be these things you are doing different on 'test' trying to impress, ent it?

Stop trying to impress! Just think 'Sod-it' and take it as it comes.... stop thinking....... Wink

And try not to get too dissolusioned with it.

Not quite; sitting A1 wont give you access to big-bikes, but it's still a full licence, and can be done for little more than £90 test fees, cost of a repeat CBT course, as opposed to likely £500 DAS style course to put an A2 bike under your bum for test.
Once you have it; turns licence from pink to green and means no more CBT, ever, and starts clock on the 2 year New-Driver-Act probation, so you can get that out the way while on a little low performance bike, less likely to help you gather points that don't mean prizes so quick.
May only be able to ride same standard of bike as you can on L's, but still nice not to HAVE to have them; and benefits of carrying pillions or using motorways may be negligible, but still there.
Then when you ARE eligible to test for A2.....
As an already qualified A1 licence holder, its merely an 'upgrade' so you wont have to repeat theory; and when it comes to training & tests, more liklihood that that expensive training courses might be kept on the skinny side with more chance of needing less training and better chance of first time pass, as you have done it once already, its just doing it on a bigger bike.
Is disheartening that they have taken away even more incentive to get off L's and offered more encouragement for perpetual L-Plating, by way of limiting access to big-bike by test, BUT, TIME ON A TIDLER IS RARELY WASTED and testing on your own 125, is still cheap way to full licence, and even though that may only give 125 only A1 entitlement from Jan, it's still useful, and can still offer 'cheaper' way to biking.

Best (and only?) argument I've heard in favour of getting a full license as early as possible even with the new rules post-19th Jan.

Only thing is, didn't you mean from green to pink Wink

Probably, but I loose track...
It was pink when I got a provisional, turned green when I passed my car test, then when I passed my bike it turned pink again.... and since then they have changed them all about yet again!
