Just received a letter that on my 21st birthday my bonds will mature and I'm taking them out, I'm quite good with money and save each month but with this money I want to do something to remember with it. It's just short of £1,000 any ideas on how to enjoy it?

Personally?

I'd chuck it into savings, could come in use if you continue to add to it. Deposits etc.

If I had to blow it out?

I'd upgrade the bike.

I pissed mine away. Sometimes I regret doing so but then again, I had a great time doing so!

On a more mature level, why not buy stock in a company. Just pretend it's money you'd never had. It's a bit of a gamble but could very well pay off.

Shocked When I first glanced at the thread title, I thought I'd entered one of them dodgy sites by accident (again). I read the title as ''What to do with maturing blondes''

I thought it said masturbating bonds Laughing

Personally I'd put it in savings, as £1k wouldn't go that far nowadays.

Which means it'll go even less in the future!

£1000 isn't really a lot of money. If I were you I'd spend it on something big. Either a holiday or maybe a new MTB/Camera.

I'm putting mine (Mine matured in August) towards my funds for a Beetle in 18months time.
All my money is in an ISA, happily earning interest.
You could use the money to go towards working/living abroad for bit?

If you want to access it in the short-term then look at an ISA. If not, Google 'penny shares'. Smile

Holiday is a good idea, go and sow your wild oats in some sunny foreign land for a couple of weeks.

Suggestion about putting it toward travelling abroad is also good, kinda the same, but more oat sowing across a longer period, on a more multinational scale.

If either of those aren't your thing, coke and whores, £1k saved ain't gonna mean shit unless you are intending to add to the pile frequently and substantially, so spunk the lot, at 21 thats what I'd do.

It would make a nice start to an ISA account, that you wouldn't miss in the short term.
An ISA pays interest usually monthly into your current account which becomes rather pleasing as the amount you have saved in it adds up over years.
Or buy yourself a nice treat like a good camera or bike bits.
A wise purchase of something you wanted for a while is just as valid as saving to spend later.
Life is for living.
