Morning

Had my driving test this morning & failed on the eyesight test, on the 3rd attempt I was off by one digit Brick Wall .

Seem to suffer from intermittent blurred vision, did my bike test last year Mod 2 twice due to weather and was fine on the eye test also started lessons in August this year and was fine when asked to read out plates in the same car park.

Lately seems to come following long periods of time on the computer which I often use more around this time of the year with uni and the crap weather, wondering if that has anything to do with it? (booking in at a opticians ofc).

IMPORTANTLY I think my license in now revoked, anyone confirm? No idea how long it'll be till they re-issue (after getting a medical referral I think) but with needing my license and my bikes for commuting looks like I'm fucked with a capital F.

DSA staff were polite but knew nothing of where I go now, examiner rang me an hour later to say that DVLA would issue a letter he didn't even know if my license was revoked & course of action only found out from directgov Rolling Eyes

Also will I need to redo my bike test again or will my license be reissued with the 01 code if eye test finds I need glasses?

Im not sure but i think you have to have a proper eye sight test at some special centre and then you get your licence back.

Welcome to the club.

It's all very frustrating when things with the DVLA go wrong because nobody actually knows.

Firstly, and most importantly, don't fret. I know it's hard not to, but it really wont help your health or your mood.

Did the examiner retain your provisional licence after informing you failed for eyesight?

Did the test centre use a tape measure to measure out the 20.5m required? I insisted after my examiner tried to pull a fast one.

I had to go see an optician after applying for a C1. Optician was shit and didn't even understand English, so couldn't decipher what it was the DVLA wanted.

Got that rejected, followed by a letter with an appointment to attend my local test centre to do an eyesight check.

The examiner there was very polite and understanding, got the tape measure, did the check and all was fine...

I really suggest you head to a decent optician (not specsavers) and get your eyes checked, may cost a few quid, but it's worth it.

The eyesight test is a load of bollocks. I 'get' the idea that its an easy test for the examiner to do, but it doesn't take into account and minor defects that people might be able to hide...

No they did not retain my license (would have strongly denied them if they tried!), the examiner himself suggested sometimes it's a fluke caused by nerves and usually the DVLA will only get involved if I tried my test again and failed a 2nd time, taking this with a pinch of salt ofc.

Wonder if he might be covering for his colleague at the same test center who passed me on the eye test twice last year for the bike test.

Have been to spec savers as they have free eye tests until Jan & they seem to think it's mild Astigmatism and nearsightedness although they couldn't quite understand why its intermittent (sometimes I could read to the middle of the chart other times not), so if I went tomorrow I could get lenses & contacts from them which I admit did improve clarity of letters at distance.

If my license is revoked, I'm guessing I won't be redoing the test rather they'll just update license with 01 code, as they have with some older drivers I've asked who informed DVLA of deteriorating eyesight.

If the optician seems a bit confused, I'd be pushing for a referral to your GP and then onto a specialist eye centre...

I really struggle with the left side of the chart as my have a really bad left eye. The right compensates slightly, but not enough sometimes.

Just got this from the gov.uk website.

This is what happened to me. I kept my cat A & B, have got a 01 code now. It's simply a 'I wear specs/contacts' prompt. Though when stopped by the police, I've never been questioned on it (I have ICLs now).

Thumbs Up

Thinking I may get a second opinion, going to see my old opticians at some point, I have a lazy left eye too my right is considerably better for picking out letters I found out earlier.

From what I understand by the wording on Directgov, my license is revoked having failed the eyesight test until I get a letter and attend a second eye test at DSA center (weird thing is here I could do as I've done and get contacts go back do eye test and simply not inform them I have contacts in then no 01 code, seems flawed Confused)

Been practicing in better levels of daylight (test was 9:20 this morning with rain clouds overhead) and been able to read plates fine from further distances away, don't care that I've lost £62 on the test it's the license I already have and fucking need I'm more concerned about!

I have a stigma in my left eye. So I need glasses for using the computer and driving/riding for signs/numberplates etc. when I'm tired, or for night time use.

Basically numbers and letters get blurred together and all lights go starburst without the glasses.

I declared my stigma to the DVLA and apparently it makes no odds to my licence. Hope this helps. Karma Thumbs Up

Once maybe twice a day roughly for about a year now, drink a lot of Coke as well if relevant.

Mine seems to be only in one eye also, sounds very similar to what you describe Clanger, but seems to vary daily or even hourly.

Caffeine!

Yep silly as it sounds:

New study links caffeinated coffee to vision loss

What both yourself and clanger describe was very similar to my experience which made me extra panicky when I had my Mod 2 test simply worrying would I pass the eye-test.

I wore glasses when young and still have dodgy eyes. Something about they don't work together as they should.

Anyway, I drink a lot of coffee (7-8 pints a day) and it was seriously affecting my sleep. I was waking up for Uni like I hadn't slept.

So I decided to go de-caffeinated. My sleep improved greatly, but also my eye-sight improved too by quite a significant amount.
I can now see things a lot further away, the blurryness is greatly reduced too.

So even if you think i'm nuts, give cutting caffeine out a try, it might just surprise you after a few weeks. Thumbs Up

If your eyesight is normally ok then it's definitely a computer-related thing.

Eh? Thinking about 6 months ago with shift changes I started to drink a cup or 2 a day, never after 5pm though.

These days my right eye is always slightly blurred, while left is always perfect. My eyesight has been 20/20 from a very young age, but recently just my right is changing. 'tis worrying.

i have the 01 code on my provisional. i have a nystagmus in my left eye. which means that it wobbles when i try and focus on something eg a number plate. this in turn fucks the other eye up because the left eye cant focus, which makes it a lottery as to if i can read a number plate or not. on my test i got the 1st one wrong (the 1st letter) on the second 1 i got the last letter wrong but he just said, you got the last letter wrong try again and i got it. tbh i think he cba getting the tape measure out as we was already running late because the ear piece kept falling out
