Yamaha R1 Tapping noise

Guys,

Anyone out there got an R1, if so, is your engine tappy, my mates 2001 R1 is very tappy on the left side of the engine, is this normal, anything to worry about?

Sounds like ye olde Yamaha camchain tensioner problem.

I know that Yamaha redesigned the camchain tensioner on the R6 at least once. They might have a new design that is better for that years R1.

Its probably best to get it looked at by a dealer, because if the camchain goes... Shocked

Thanks for that, in fact my mate said that is what he thought it was, I said it sounded like a tappet noise.
