Hi,

I recently got a YBR 125 (Last week and love it and so far loving riding though still a little nervous) Smile

What i have notice though is at 6000rpm there is a odd noise coming from the bike. It's like a rasping, almost a vibrating noise. It seems to be at the exact same rev in each gear but it doesn't seem to happen in neutral that i've noticed - does in all other gears.

I'm not the most technically minded (though i plan to learn) and wondered if anyone had any ideas. I want to take the bike on some long runs but am a little cautious until I know what this noise issue is.

Any advice, ideas would be great. (bike was MOT'd in sept - but i guess as they don't ride it they wouldnt have notice the noise.

Look forward to any advice people can give a noob. Thumbs Up

if you got it from a bike shop last week, take it back and ask for an opinion.

if you got it s/hand and it is as described then its your risk.

the engine may make a different noise at 6k rpm naturaly, as its power really comes in...............or it may be something buzzing or rattling etc........

place rag over exhaust end and rev on centre stand.........engine noise or elsewhere??

Listen to where it's coming from, it's probably the chrome plating on the exhaust rattling around, mine does it too, if I put my leg against the exhaust it's much quieter

Hi,

Thanks Apha, will try that out - do you reckon there's a permanent solution?

Bikenut - It was a private purchase, I had got my mate to test ride it for me (not having that much experience) and he mentioned it to me but he doesn't think it's serious. He reckons its to do with a resonance at a set rev due to, well, essentially vibrations being emphasised at that one point.

I just wanted to check on here with anyone who might have had a similar issue so I didn't get done by any garage.

Appreciate the feedback, it's great site for help Thumbs Up

What sort of rattling is it? Razz

Does it sound tinny or?
Just follow where the sound is coming from and put your boot against it to see if it stops the vibrations, the cure is simply tightening up whatever's loose and shaking around, the washers on my exhaust plating thing is shit, I say washers, it's like wire wool with a screw through it, it's always coming loose

What year YBR?

ok, well I got out on it for a decent spin yesterday, first long ride on it, and what I noticed is that the buzzing/vibration is coming from somewhere around the speedo/light at the top of the forks.

Not sure exactly where but as I am changing the bulb next weekend I figure I will have a look/fiddle then and see if there is anything slightly loose. If in doubt i'll just tighten everything I can see a little bit more and see how that goes.

Oddly enough I noticed the same noise on my bike after I got SMIDSYd, noticed there was an odd vibration sound coming from behind the clocks, not sure if it's the speedo bit in the clocks bent out of shape so when it spins it touches it or something, can't tell, could just be loose bolts but I can't imagine its that loud then Thinking

I often have to tighten bits up that rattle loose on it though, footpegs are one of the barstards, they wobble loose then the rear brake gets caught on the bolt Shocked

Well just a FYI I think I have solved the problem... It turns out that the plastic Yamaha sign between the forks has snapped on one of the screws. Basically this means that at 6000rpm it vibrates in such a way that it makes more noise... Well, I am almost certain this is what it is,

Had it on the side stand earlier and was holding the sign whilst revving it at 6000 and it seemed to have stopped it... I have now superglued it and held it in place with some duct tape. Will remove the tape before i ride it and hopefully the glue will hold. If not i'll try riding it with the tape to see if it solves the problem and if it does then I'll have to invest in a new sign. (not sure if sign is the right word, but I have no idea what else to call it)

Alpha, hope this might help with your bike, how is it going since the crash? Did you get it sorted? Hope your good Thumbs Up
