Hi guys Im kinda new to this forum so be kind with me,

I am about to trade in my 13 year old 1991 GS500EM, for something a bit "bigger",

With 3 years experience under my belt, I am considering several bikes in the 600 catagory and I have about £2500 Maximum to spend.

So Im thinking along the lines of a Suzuki GSX600F, XJ600S, Bandit 600 etc.

I am looking for a bike with cheap insurance and I hate V-Twins so what do you lot suggest?

If you don't want a sports bike, then I'd maybe consider the GSX750f... the commuter-y 600s are a step up from your 500, but not that much of one. Also maybe a vfr750 or older cbr600.

GSXR600 would be a bit expensive on the old insurance for a 20 year old dont ya think?

As for the GSX750F It seems that its another contender I would have to think about Sad

I was supprised to see that I could insure the 750 for £70 more than the 600!?!?!?!?

Depends where you live.

You have some experience and presumably some NCB, it might not be as bad as you think.

Is that an online quote?

If it is then it's tosh and you'll get it lower than that! Give Danny a PM for his insurance services!

Yeah its an online quote, it may seem a little high as I had an accident in late 2002 and as such have only 1 year NCB:-(

I think I can safely say that the GSXR600 wouldnt be the bike for me, as I commute alot, and want a comfortable bike thats cheap to service and for some bizaar reason I prefer Air Cooled Motors Smile

Hi

Mr C had a GSX600F and did not like it. Basically he seemed to think it was OK, but very dull to ride.

I have a 600 Diversion. Handling is OK (suspension is quite soft, but then I am quite light and most bikes are set up far too firm for me). Engine is dull. Brakes are OK. Build quality is acceptable (better than my 1200 Bandit). Basically it is a form of transport and not really that much fun.

All the best

Keith

Ive just found a ZZR600 its a 1991 H Reg and its done 30,000 miles for £1799.

Are ZZR's any good, or is there something I should look out for or stear clear from?

If I remember rightly ZZR600 is in a higher group than the GSX750F so insurance would probably be slightly higher. I was looking at getting a GSX600F but then saw a RF600 and decided on that instead. I'm 20 and only pay £450 TPFT so you can probably get cheaper, shop around!

Hi

ZZR is a good bike. Cush drive rubbers suffer bbadly resulting in a fairly clunky transmission. However I think that price might be a bit too high. I was offered one about 2 years ago with about the same mileage but not on the road (buy who owned it had not ridden it for a few years) for about £900. I still know the guy who was selling it and know that the buyer put a new battery on it, fresh petrol and it was fine.

All the best

Keith

Ive never considered the RF600R yet another bike Im gonna add to my list to consider, lol

How would yo describe the RF600R and how much are servicing cost and how good is it on fuel as I think I may have been spoiled by the GS's consumption or should I say lack of it.

Btw which insurance company are you insured with to get £450 TPFT?

This is from a main dealer in the northwest called ESB so I expect them to be a bit dearer, there one of the best dealers up here so I spose they'll charge more.

Hi

Maybe so, but when I was looking at that one I was told it was a touch pricey! Say £1000~£1200 for the same bike privatly in the same condition, so they are charging you 50% more for buying it from a dealer.

All the best

The figure often quoted is 10% extra when buying from a garage rather than privately.
