Morning all
Finally happened. Left home around 5.30 this morning, nice and frosty. Only got round the corner when the accelerator cable jammed leaving me in full throttle i shat myself and didnt want it revving its tits off..... somewhere between trying to upshift to lower the revs, trying to turn the key off and possible braking (all happened so quick) i ended up loosing the back end, then the front end and i was soon sliding trapped under the bike till it hit/mounted the curb.
Luckily wasnt going that fast... managed to pop the headlight, snap the speedo bracket and a couple of scratches on the bike here and there. I was in full leathers so would like to think they did their part in keeping me safe. One of the knees got a bit scratched up but nothing a baby wipe didnt solve and the suit has knee sliders which are also a bit scratched. Ive managed to get a little bump on my knee which im guessing is from the impact and thats about it. The biggest injury and most annoying is from having taking my gloves off, cut my finger on the broken headlight trying to mess about with the speedo
Im a little annoyed about it all but in consideration it couldve been a lot worse. Just glad it happened whilst the roads were quiet and there wasnt anyone walking past theres a school not too far away.

Well you are ok, the most important, and 2nd, not much damage to the bike. Why didn t you just pull in the clutch? ____________________ 2011 KTM 990 Dakar

Sorry to here about the off dude, i usually ride at silly o clock in the mornings to work too. Not been looking forward to it this week when its been particularly cold but luckily the missus hasnt needed the car as much so iv been a wimp and taken the car
First thing i thought whilst reading too was that i would have pulled the clutch in or hit the kill switch, but its easy saying it when you werent there!
All the best in getting back to full health (you and bike!) Dont let it knock your confidence |

Pretty odd that the throttle stuck?! Best to figure out why so it doesn't happen again! The cable should be really, really, really free to go without any snags or anything, and the actual grip should be free to spin without jamming at any point. Definitely figure why it got stuck |

it doesnt have a kill switch it has a weird key in the ignition near the speedo. maybe taking a hand off the handlebar to reach for it gave me a wobble. ____________________ zzr600 |

Motorbikes generally have two throttle cables to try and reduce the risk of this situation. Did the "push" cable snap? Or was there some mechanical obstruction?
Pretty scary nonetheless. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

glad the damage to both you and the bike isn't too bad.
falling off isn't fun. I did this to my first bike in May.

High sided over the bars, I hit a bit of mud on the road, which made the back end wobble, which made me run wide on a tight corner.
I didn't help by throttling back
it bent the bars quite badly, and the left foot peg. ripped my cheap waterproof trousers to bits, and I'm glad I had a decent jacket on as I landed on my shoulder.
annoyingly I spent 5 hours on the following Saturday straightening it all out again and some toerag nicked it that night! ____________________ it is impossible to lick your own elbow...
