I have a hornet 600 99 which has been off the road for 7 months now, and i'm finally getting it back this month.
What i need to know is what is the best thing to get it prepared for road use again? i know the battery is flat and this is due to the alarm too, and i feel it has had its life worth any way.

I have been to my local honda dealership and they say i should have a basic package service which is £82 and consists of:

Oil and filter
Fluid level check
Chain adjustment and lube
tyre pressure
lights, horn, starter, bearing check, test ride

Is that the best thing to do or should i just get the new battery and run the bike in on the road for the first few hundred miles, like its a new bike?

Thanks

change the oil etc and get rid of any stale petrol in the fuel tank , you don`t want all the crap getting in your engine , the service seems the best idea but why not do it yourself? Very Happy get a haynes manual if you have not got one Thumbs Up

I agree with Fazed, service the bike, but save the money by doing it yourself (or get a mate to help you). What the garage say they will do will take no more than an hour, and they want to charge £80 for it!
Doing it yourself will cost no more than £30 (including the Haynes manual) max and you will have the comfort of knowing it has been done, and not just cleaning the outside of the oil filter and saying it's a new one.

How do i go about getting the stale petrol out? Is it a hose pope and blow job? Rolling Eyes (sorry about the phrase Cool )

You MAY want to manually turn the engine over, just incase its siezed up a bit, due to storage. Get Haynes and do as they say, they know/tell you all about that kind of thing...

This gives you a good oppourtunity to give it a good full service on it. Spoil it, its not often that you get a good chance to...

It'll be running nicely afterwards... Smile
