Hand made Damascus steel blanks from India, timber is spalded Caucasian walnut. I just need a couple of days free to finish them (and some brass stock, loveless bolts, leather, rivets etc.

No offence but they look like a poor etching job from the pic.

Which reproduction technique did they use?

I am very pleased with the quality, the etch is nice, no idea what they did as I was not in India but it is a form of pattern welding could you give the alternatives?

Damascus steel can be made with a bike chain, or any other steel. I'm not sure I'd expect much from Indian steel. Are they already tempered (properly)? Assuming the steel will even take a decent temper.

Made from 1080 and 15n20 folded 200+ times and tempered to 58 RC, the steel has a nice clear ring to it.

I've seen most of the stuff he's made and the pictures don't do it justice.

He does one to training day sometimes were you can get to make your own block of Damascus and usually you can get into a knife shape which you can finish yourself at home or go back another time and finish it .
Its very interesting to see how the patterns are made buy twisting and folding the different steels.
