I bought a Ducchini D409 as a spare a few months ago and although every review shows it as having a Gold ACU status, I don't see any sticker on the helmet? It has the ECE R 22.05 markings.

Question is...should it have the Gold sticker ?

ACU Gold is a paid-for "rating", it's about as convincing as a hooker telling you how huuuuge you are. Sticker-and-go.

no such thing as a "gold standard", it doesn't mean the helmet is safer

acu gold stickers are a couple of quid to buy, and add cost to the manufacture process, so even shoei don't stick them on these days as they say such a small percentage of their buyers go on track days that if someone wants a gold sticker for a shoei they'll give you one, its cheaper than sticking one on every helmet they sell

the money you pay for the sticker goes back to the ACU to help fund them, but they insist on the sticker bring there for track use

Do tracks actually look for the ACU sticker when you go on a track day?

Only worry about it if you're actually racing in my experience - not seen people being checked on trackdays.

It means fuck all, if you need one ask the people you bought it from, or buy one.

I peeled mine off. Right before I removed my mattress label and drew a penis on a £5 note.

British Standard BS 6658 was the best safety mark to have - to get that mark they had to test a helmet to destruction from _every_ batch made. I used to Kart years ago, and that was the minimum required - the ACU/22:05 stuff wasn't deemed good enough. I'm guessing they must've relaxed those rules now because BS6658 is practically impossible to get nowadays AFAIK.

that's because they've more or less forgotten about BSI and use euro standards, one of the "advantages" of being part of europe

in the good old days of BSI a man used to go and visit all the BSI approved helmet makers at random, pick a number of helmets out of the production process and take them to the testing room they used to have where a member of staff was trained how to test helmets for different markets, and ask that member of staff to test the helmets to BSI safety standards

nowadays.........they're manufacturer is self assessing, all they have to do is say you're making them to ECE 2205 and no-one checks, and this is why you can buy a container full of full face helmets from china for £8 each, finished and boxed and ready for sale Rolling Eyes
