Sorry if this has been covered before but need a definite answer. My old man has been going on about a Go Pro camera to use on his Bandit for ages now so my mum has gone and bought the Outdoors edition. Is this any good or do we need the Motorsports edition? I told her maybe we need to get the motorsports one but would just like to clarify first Smile

Isn't it the same device but with less/different mounts supplied?

It's the same camera unit, the different editions just have different mounts (within the same range at least, the HD, HD2 and Black editions are all different camera units).

The outdoor pack has a chest mount but the same M3 sticky pad mounts as every other edition. The difference with the motorsports pack is that you don't get the chest mount but you get a suction mount instead:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0014F9H4K/ref=asc_df_B0014F9H4K10827412?smid=A2XEJBEI0NRD3V&tag=hydra0b-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22218&creativeASIN=B0014F9H4K&hvpos=1o1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15319624371463605025&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=

All the mounts can be bought separately though and it's always good to have different mounting options.

I`d find out exactly where he intends to mount it ......... on his helmet or on the bike. Then you`ll know which is the most suitable mount req`d.

Don`t get me going about RAM mounts either ..........

He wants the motorsports edition. The motorsports edition comes with the best mounts for using on a motorbike.

I bought the MS version and still had to go out and buy mounts to suit the bike!

The sticky ones that fit to the mudguards, tank, headlight are good though.

I have the motorsports edition and the suction pad mount is great for sticking on the tank. You could stick a sticky pad on your helmet and that's four angles straight away as you can mount the GoPro forward or backward facing so plenty to get started with.

If you want more mounts you will have to buy more that are sold separately, overall though the motorsports pack is best for out the box mounts.

I have a Motorsport edition and the suction pad mount doesn't work on a bike. Tested on few bikes.

WAAY to much vibrations at any speed.

It is OK to stuck on helmet however. Tested and it keeps strong enough. Very strong.

It looks super weird and you feel the air resistance even at 30mph.

Ram Mount seems to work the best. Get few if you want different perspective.

I didn't test glued mounts that came with MS edition.

The suction cup works fine for me, just ensure the surface is clean and level otherwise you'll risk it falling off. I prefer using the sticky 3M mounts on my lid as already mentioned the wind resistance is rather unpleasant otherwise.

You'll get perfectly fine results with the chest harness on a naked bike though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQhF3QfMjVc&hd=1 gives you an idea of what to expect.

I'm shocked how well it works for you Shocked
Looks like a perfect solution for faired bikes.

Only thing the motorsports has is the suction cup....I have one and i'm not a huge fan to be honest. I put my trust in 3m adhesive technology over suction cups.

Worked fine on my 954, rock steady. See my IOM vid for proof, right here:

Works fine for me too. I only tested it once and haven't put the video online (although I may make a quick video now) but my tank is relatively wide and flat so that probably helped.

EDIT: There you go, this was on a very bumpy B road in North Wales:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDyXm_K4aVQ

it's a bit shaky but not too bad I think. I'll be getting a chest mount soon as I want to use it mountain biking and prefer the chest mount footage over the helmet mount (parts of which can be seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wqiWIqzXx0).

+1

The outdoor edition the OP mentions isn`t so bad, the chest strap will have its uses, he just needs to get hold of a suction mount or other mounts as req`d.
Both on my GP 2`s are "motorsports editions" but I still prefer using the adhesive mounts, and RAM mounts, depending on where I mount them. I`ve only ever used the suction mount inside a 4 wheeler stuck to the windscreen or side window.
The Basic GP kit is just the starter kit, so no doubt wallet emptying battery, LCD, & WiFi bakpacks will follow Shocked along with the Wifi Apps for iphone or android phone.
Also don`t forget the OP will want a reasonable video editing suite such as Sony Vegas to make those youtube videos

Bugger. It turns out that I actually bought the outdoor edition! I've since bought a few other mounts (presumably those included in the Motorsport Edition). The suction cup mount is excellent.
