This week, I hit a bus!

and a friend get's injured....

The Situation:

West Croydon Bus Garage, Single Lane One-way, except trams and buses.

Travelling a major road, bus coming across lane.

https://img10.imageshack.us/img10/8370/collisionv.jpg

The Event:

Just finished filtering pass traffic at about 10-15 Mph, come out into view of the bus just starting to cross the give way lines.

Upon sighting the bus it brakes, stopping with the two front wheels just over the line... Front just shy of the C and K on the markings on the road. I begin to apply power to pass, the bus lurches forward and from the angle I could see impact was going to happen, I pin the throttle and make a right-turn (as much as possible in the half a second available to me) clipping the front left-hand fender with the left hand pillion foot-rest of the motorcycle, the force of the impact send's me over the road and into the minor road... The force of the acceleration + impact of the bus saw my pillion falling off the back onto the solid white line.

The Damage:

My pillion: Scrape on the back
Bruising of the knuckle on the right-hand

Me: None

The Bike: None, except rear left-hand fairing

The Bus: Front-left hand fairing

The Verdict:
I assumed the bus driver saw me, my bad.
The bus driver failed to look right before pulling out, his bad.

The Conclusion:

Shit Happens, just do try to be more careful around buses!

Thee End

Highway code says we shouldn't filter past junctions for this reason. At least you're all in one piece!

Yeah, It was a stupid moment, just glad it was minor scrape/bruise to pillion. Could of been a lot more nastier.

No - look again. It's specially reinforced cats whiskers. Effective - to a point. A sharp blow such as that caused by e.g. a pillion footpeg can - I stress *can* - cause quite visible damage. As we see here. And the cats? Many cannot now fit through small gaps without fretting - their special feline feeler gauges removed for the sake of a few thousand pounds shaved off (no pun intended) a public transport operator's annual budget. Shameful the way the bottom line has come to dominate in this way - and yet all too understandable in these times of austerity.

I'm not surprised there was an accident with all those coloured lines painted all over the road. Rolling Eyes

Bus drivers around Nottingham are being utter twats at the moment, I had a big skiddy thing (stayed upright though) last week as one completely failed to see me turning right at a mini roundabout and decided to just carry on into my path and another took out the side of a work mates car while he was stationary at lights and then failed to stop!

Actually posting this has reminded me that I've not heard back regarding my complaint about the blind retard...

call rider support sevices on 02082464900 to deal with your claim otherwise your insurers will just land you with some rubbish mickey mouse outfit!

Rider support services were recommended to me from someone on here back in 2005 when i had my first real RTC

or you could contact i think its T.C. from here on BCF as he deals with these sort of things and from the sounds of it he sounds quite knowledgeable and helpful

most of the bus is made of either thin fiberglass, aluminium, compressed cardboard... and believe it or not the windows are structural support (why do you think the roof comes off at such low speeds)... but then the benefit is that if the roof does come off it only costs about £4k - £5k to repair.

Glad the OP wasn't injured, could have been a lot worse if the driver couldn't stop in time

Thank's for the advise but I'm not looking to claim, the Bus driver and I agreed it was 50/50 fault and we left it at that. Due to the situation I don't think the Bus company will want to take this to court.

I'm Just happy the damage was minimal and me and my friend can walk away from it.

Only applies to regular drivers though, not highly trained professionals. Whistle

Shit happens. At least you're both intact and walking around and more importantly taken on board the mistake. Thumbs Up

Ja, Although the situation was a bit "iffy" I understand the reasons of my failure to keep myself out of danger... I was too relaxed and just assumed the bus drive saw me, even though I could not see his face, just concluded from the actions of the bus prior to the incident...

I always trusted bus drivers, I thought all that extra training to drive the multiple tonne machines containing the hue-muns would make them extra sharp and aware, but alas... I was proven wrong.

OP should have done a giant turd on the pavement then smeared it over front of said bus.

Just for the lulz.
