I made some protein flapjacks today. Good thing about these is that they don't need cooking, you bung in ingredients together then leave for 20 minutes.

I found the recipe online (can dig it up if anyone wants it), but it consists of;

Porridge Oats [80g]
Unflavored whey [120g]
Honey [8tbsns]
Peanut butter [half a jar or so]

That's the basic recipe. You can add whatever else you want, like raisins, apricots, etc.

All I did was weigh the oats and protein, then chucked in a bowl and mixed a little. Then I put the peanut butter and honey in a bowl and chucked in the microwave for a minute. Once they're half mixed and runnier, chuck it in the bowl of oats and whey. Mix up.

I found it to not bind very well, so I added a tiny amount of water. It then mixed well.

I "tried" to melt some chocolate to put ontop, but that didn't work out. I managed to burn it. Next time Laughing .

Here's the finished result. They are a little soft so next time I'll either add more oats or less honey. But they are really tasty, I'm happy with the result.

Does anyone else have any recipes for stuff like this? Want to learn other snacky things I can make using protein!

I think the same guy suggested you substituted some % of flour in your pancakes with protein whey.

It works! I put 2 scoops of hurricane XS in lieu of flour and have it with honey and bananas for a slightly better breakfast.

You melt chocolate in a double boiler, not directly on the heat source.

If you don't have a proper double boiler, use a pan of simmering water with a metal or pyrex bowl on top. Put the chocolate in the pyrex bowl and stirr occasionally. You can't burn it like this unless the pan boils dry.

Does the protein add to the flavour? If not, what's the point of this?

That sounds good, I have a habit of fasting until lunch, that may sway me Laughing . I use the Impact Whey from MP, I try to get as much as I can from my diet and use shakes as a top-up. Got a 5kg pouch of raspberry last week. It's huge.

It's a nice snack to have after my workout, or to munch on throughout the day. Keeps me busy in the kitchen too, my husband appreciates it. Razz

You can tell he's hungry. He's eaten his fingernails almost up to the elbow.

The protein is for image concious teens trying to "bulk up" rather than wait for nature, hormones, hard work and a balanced diet to take its course.

What's rasberry taste like? I normally get the smooth chocolate but decided to get vanilla because I assumed it would taste neutral and would go with anything, but nope, it tasted like smeg!

Pancakes

2 eggs
2 scoops protein
6 scoops flour
Add milk to your consistency for batter

Then cook as many as you wish. That recipe is good for like 8-10 pancakes roughly 10" in size

I haven't actually opened it yet as I still have a little left in my USN tub. I had banana before from MP, which was ok but not that great. Ordered 5kg of a flavour I haven't tried Laughing , I'm sure it will be ok. Thanks for the recipe Tot, will try that next week. Thumbs Up

I agree with you, too many people down shakes day and night for no good reason [and for the image.. i.e fat!]. For people like myself (and tot I would imagine), I use the shakes to help my post-workout recovery. It really does help.

I just put three raw eggs and milk into a protein shaker. Quickest and easiest way to get protein in.

do you really need the protein? My guess is not. The body can only use so much. For a 75kg person daily need is around 60 grams. The maximum a person can use is not that much higher than that. Probably around 80 grams. Quite easily obtainable with a good diet. You also need to be careful when you eat your protein. I have read in some journals that protein consumption soon after anaerobic exercise (i.e. weight lifting) can slow down recovery.
sorry, can't offer any recipes. I eat properly

I really have to lol at people who think they need to spend ridiculous amounts of money on protein supplements.

Gonna have to try some of these! I'm bulking up now through winter as well so these will help greatly! You can make pretty much anything from bread to cakes etc using protein powder, protein banana bread is heavenly.

Never understood people criticising supplements, as long as you use it as just that...a supplement then it's all good.

Try greek yoghurt & peanut butter 30 mins before bed, you'll wake up without a single ache in your muscles!

Protein fluff:
100ml milk, one scoop of casein protein powder and either a 200g of ice (you can use frozen squash etc) or to make it really tasty, 200g of frozen fruit. Attack the ice/fruit with a food processer, then beat the lot with an electric whisk for five minutes or so. From your 200 calories worth of food you get not far off 2l of fluffy mousse desert.

Sugar free jelly is pretty much pure protein and low in calories per cc, so another tasty and filling way to get your protein in.

I was experimenting with high-protein cheese cake recipes, but I kept eating the lot while trying to keep my calories down, so wasn't a great solution.
Quark cheese is very good for protein however - and whisked up with some tastier ingredients you can make various things.
Some of the cheesecake recipes I had involves using some of that sugar free jelly to help it set; but I never got the ratios quite right (or just got impatient and ate it before ready.)

Protein is for people that want to make full use of what they're doing.
I liken it to being offered a 15% raise at work with no strings attached; you could turn it down, but few people would want to be doing the same work for less money given the chance.

Oh and if you're careful, can melt chocolate nice and quickly in the microwave without burning it.

Find the idea of "bulking up" a bit odd unless it's for a good reason like for a particular sport or so you can bend iron bars around your neck.

However, a good protein heavy recipe I enjoy is:-

Take 1 large sirloin steak

Fry quickly so it's just browned on the outside

Eat

Wish I could afford to do that to meet my daily protein quota!
A similar amount of protein powder is going to come out at 75p or something, however.

I want to get some muscle on for a mixture of vanity and general usefulness for sport/life - can't hurt too much for enduro, mountain biking etc; definitely more muscle useful for climbing (though, to be fair, stronger tendons even more useful) as well as general daily stuff - moving bike engines about, say.
