How would I go about it? Basically my computer is nothing fancy, but I just want to watch some films via a network on my PC.

I need a cable thats about 12ft long minimum.

So basically something that will throw my pc screen onto the TV.

The screen is a 47" one, is it possible to get high definition with it at all?

Cheers for any help. Very Happy

If your PC has a HDMI port just try plugging it in via that, to your TV.
That's what I've done.

depends on the connections on your PC and TV
most TV's come with VGA adapter these days so you can connect that way and buy an extension cable
you will need to connect audio from your PC seperately
or get an HDMI output card for your PC is it doesn't have one already and connect that way and no audio issues

3TB NAS drive attached to the router, full of films, telly, documentaries, bikes, MotoGP etc, Tour de France etc, stream HD to the wireless media player in the front room and the same into the conservatory, wirelessly, via the Xbox. And the lad can watch the same in his bedroom via his Xbox too. And the main PC doesn't need to be on for it to work.

With a TV that size it should have at least VGA / DVI on it depending on its age. It really depends on the inputs you have.

If you're going to do this a lot have a look at XBMC or something like a Roku / WD Live TV etc..

If you have a PS3 attached to the TV it can stream media from the PC if it is on and running Windows Media Player, assuming it is all connected to the same router (whether by cable or wireless).

I actually discovered this by accident when scrolling around the PS3 menus; my PC was on in another room and it showed up via the PS3. I can show photographs or videos on the TV now, rather than crowd around the less-comfortably-sited PC.

Fantastic. Cheers, tv and pc has the avg slot etc but I'd rather go HDMI. How would I go about purchasing one of the cards, my pc is one of those smaller dell computers, runs the smaller slots than most computers. Rolling Eyes Guessing i need a certain one?

Basically, xbox died, bastard kept lagging on streaming vids then eventually killed itself.

Cheers.

Buy a Raspberry Pi and a wifi USB dongle from Maplins and use it to stream the videos off of the NAS. Connect the Rasperry Pi to the TV by HDMI.

What is it some sort of wireless usb to usb to the tv? If so, I'm assuming the tv would have to be capable of playing the format, which mine is useless (doesnt recognise most video formats)

Cheers. Cool

Using the Pi (Or a ready made home streamer such as a WD TV or Smart Blu-Ray player) means the video is processed into a regular HDMI feed any TV can handle.

Going for a Pi setup will be a little more hassle initially but you'll pretty much be future proofed until 4K comes along. An off the shelf solution will work right out of the box but will potentially be redundant as soon as h.265 starts seeing widespread use which will likely be a bit sooner than 4K.

Eitherway, Home server/smart TV setups are the future of home cinema as things stand. Running a NAS/Streamer is the next best thing for a fraction of the money Thumbs Up

Right, dude...

Do you have a HDMI or mini-HDMI port on your pc?

Also, please get the model number of the PC so we know what options are available for you.

No the Raspberry Pi is a £35 computer. It doesn't have Wifi built in, but a USB wifi dongle will do that. The Raspberry Pi has a HDMI port, and displays native 1080p. Because it is a computer that runs linux, the codecs can be downloaded or you can just run VLC player.

The maplin kit comes with a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse HDMI cable and Wifi dongle and costs £69 iirc.

You can get mini hdmi to full hdmi adaptors. Most electronics websites should have them.
