Yeah I fully expect to be told to stop being a muppet or something and this is a pretty weird thread but I can deal with that.

So, as a new biker and someone who has never really worn a helmet before, I am finding that my short length hair gets all spazzed out and I look like a proper scruff when I take my helmet off.

Nearly every biker I know has either no hair or very long hair, neither of which seem to be affected by wearing a lid for a couple of hours. But for myself, no matter what I do with it before I put my lid on, it comes off leaving a my head looking like it has crop circles on it.

Please tell me to stop being gay or something but for anyone with short hair, what do you do?

Helmets affect hair, and IMO longer hair is affected more. It's undeniable. You can minimize the effect by wearing a balaclava or similar head covering.

I have the typical short back and sides.

Short trips you couldn't tell any different.

Long trips it looks like I've been swimming and its dried.

Wearing a balaclava just makes me look like jedward

I disagree... Long hair can be plaited Mr. Green

Oh and I have rather long hair!

I used to have long hair, but never plaited. If it got into the wind, it got knotted. The more I worked on bikes etc., the less patience I had for it - finally got fed up with it falling into the oil pan when changing oil, getting caught in things, etc., so I cut off 5 years or so of hair.

Yes, I could have tied it etc., but I was never one for all that.

At the moment I have very short hair. I get a line across my forehead after long bike trips from my helmet. I look like I've had a lobotomy for 5 minutes after removing my lid. Th trick is to get places 5 minutes minimum before people I know arrive.

During my long haired yoof, I once rode a bike helmetless in the lonely country lanes of Kent. The bike I was riding had a large fairing. My long hair actually flew up and in front of me due to some weird fairing aerodynamic effect. If anyone had taken a photograph from the side it would have looked like I was speeding backwards.

I have enough hair, but not enough care.

I find that wandering round with MC gear on makes up for it, or even enhances it.. Wink

My Shoei gives me wavy hat hair. I solve this by not caring. I'm ugly enough that a funny-looking 'do is the least of my worries.

That's happens to me too and even worse with a balaclava on, it dries my hair to crips and no amount of combing or gel would fix it. I have a towel at work, quick dip of my head in a sink of water, pat dry and problem solved.

I shave my head so fortunately don't have any problems. You could carry a pot of VO5 fibre putty or similar and do your hair when you get to work or wherever, going for the messy look Thumbs Up

Yeah, I've tried this and it seems to be the only way. Just means I'll be carrying hair gel wherever I go!

I have long hair. When out for little trips I just throw it into a pony tail. For longer trips I put a series of bands down the length of my hair. That prevents it getting all tangled up.

mine's sort of medium length... doesn't really bother me, but it does go all sorts of shapes either looks like it's been glued to my head, or is standing up in various shapes.

either take some products with you or go wet your head in work bathroom and sort it out if it bothers you.

or wear a hat.

When my hair starts to get all messed up from wearing a helmet, that's a sure sign that it's time to remove it all again.

I find that when my hair is between a number 2 & 3 wearing a helmet causes pain for 30mins afterwards.

I used to have long hair and after having a tight pony tail I'd get the same pain.

Now I nearly always wear a balaclava or a bandanna - it also stops the helmet getting stinky so quickly.

Haven't got a decent hair picture at the moment but my mate jokes I have Jensen Ackles hair. I'm probably about as sexy as him too so I can see the resemblance.

My boyfriend has VERY similar hair to that, he just uses matt clay and then when he takes his helmet off re-adjusts his fringe bit with his fingers (god that sounds naughty). Better than gel because it's possible to adjust all day rather than just stuck in one position, it's not greasy either and doesn't really show up on your hair. You use anything like that?!
