So next question following on from my other thread is about remaps.

Where did you have it done?

Before/ After figures

Would you recommend?

Any horror stories?

yes, you can get "more power" by "remapping" your derv engine. i personally wouldn't though.

mostly what the guy does is turn up the boost pressure. more air + more fuel = bigger bang. great. what they dont mention is the massive extra forces acting on all the internal engine components.

couple mates have had theirs done. one's audi adsolutely shit itself on the way to work, went into limp mode. pistons fucked up or something, he seemed to embarrased to say

the other one, scoda fabia vrs (same engine as you) the turbo exploded.

clarkson actually summed up powerful diesel quite well in the 2.5ltr twin turbo jag going round the 'ring:

mash your foot down, nothing......nothing......nothingnothing205HPchangegear

Clarkson is also full of shit. He once demonstrated turbo lag in an evo by pulling away from 10mph in like 5th gear Rolling Eyes

I've a 330d and it's got pretty much linear torque throughout the range and isn't anything like what Clarkson describes. The jag isn't either - I've driven one - and it's a good car with a decent engine.

Dom - remapping is fine but steer clear of tuning boxes; you want a proper job done. For an idea of what's possible:
https://www.angeltuning.co.uk/

A few of my friends have had their cars done by these guys with great results - one of which is still running tickety boo ~30,000 miles later and he doesn't give it an easy time; it's out on Anglesea most weekends Wink

Depends on what diesels you've driven - things have moved on a long way, especially in recent years. A mate of mine has the C350 CDi sport thingy and TBH it's an animal of a car. I'd take that over an N/A V6 petrol any day of the week.

Anyway, petrol vs diesel debate aside. There's some good diesel remapping places about that can produce good results which are well worth the cost. I'd definitely look into it Smile

If I had a diesel I would do it. There are some very reputable guys on a BMW forum I go to who do it. If it is an already powerful car and an auto, I may think twice. Otherwise go for it.

Ive done brands hatch in the new BMW 335D coupe and it was great fun.

Plenty of usable power and torque through the rev range.

I've got a Honda Accord i-CTDi which has been remapped to stage-1 with EGR delete by these guys:
https://premiertuning.com/
There's a common fault on the Accord where the EGR causes hesitation just under 2k so the EGR delete has cured that, which is awesome. Noticeable power increase but mostly a LOT smoother power delivery, torque all the way now with no lag. Fuel economy hasn't changed. Had it for just under a year now and SO glad I did it, pretty much everyone who does it says the car should come like that as standard! Only issues ever reported by the Accord owners are those with stage-2 have had clutches go sooner than expected, nobody with stage-1 has reported anything - but then they are Hondas Very Happy .

The car for reference is a Seat Ibiza Fr 1.9TDI. Same engine as the 1.9 A3, and Skoda Fabia Vrs.

Remap is for as much torque throughout the rev range as possible and better fuel economy.

Will look up the above companies, thanks!
