I'm going to pick up my Cagiva engine this weekend!!!! :D - so as you'd know i'm pretty happy. If your here Keith, I'm the one who asked you about big end bearing wear a few weeks ago. If u r here could you tell me if I have to go about running in engine as if it were a new one? (bearing in mind it has a new piston, ring and re-chromed barrel)I wasalso wondering if a re-chromed barrel will be as good as (and last as long as) a new barrel. Would it be worth me buying a new barrel and fitting that as soon as poss?? Cheers 4 any help- This site is as good as they get!

Hi

There should be no problem with a replated barrel, but I would run it in properly. You have just replaced alot of the wearing components, so in a way the engine is new.

As for the life expectancy of the barrel, dont worry. As with any 2 stroke the piston and rings are not long lived, but with a plated barrel when they fail it is more expensive (with a steel bore you can just rebore them). If you are really worried get a spare barrel and keep it for when you need it (or if the other engine has a salvageable barrel then use that, or if you dont want it let me have it!). I doubt that seizing the top end will damage any part of the bottom end of the engine.

All the best

Keith
