Hiya all,

I know a lot of bikers sort out their bikes to colour code them and get them looking 'kin mint.

I'm into mountain biking and I'm looking to get my bike in pretty much all stealth black. I've seen suspension springs on a couple of motorbikes with black/black blue springs and I'd like to know if you can get this performed on any spring - or do you buy them like that? If you can get this performed on any spring, can you give me a couple of details on the shops.

I've looked at a couple of t'interweb sites about metal finishing and the like, but none mention springs. I obviously don't want the finish to die a death under the compression and expansion forces.

Hopefully no one will be too annoyed at me using this forum for this - the MTB forums were pretty much unhelpful.

You want it powder coated.

Although thinking about it I'm not too sure how long that would last (same with paint) as I guess the springs on a mountain bike compress a lot more than the stiffer springs on a motor bike?

However I still reckon powder coating is what your after. Just find a local place to you. There should be one around.

Hiya,

Thought 'd give an up-date on this. I've checked with a metal finishers and powder coating would crack and die very quick. The best finsih is actually with Chemical Blacking/Blueing. I used the same stuff as gunsmiths do on weapons.

I now have the deep blue metal finish I wanted - thanks for the help.
