It is christmas time and our summer holidays have started. Schools closed for the summer. Time to braai and eat!!

For a family that travels on 2 wheels, the kids arrive on their own 2 wheels so dad doesnt have to cage.

Last saturday for lunch we braaied hamburgers and supper was braaied ribs. salt the fat side and a nice spicy spread inside. Later coated with an apricot jam and mango chutney marinade. No not the fly. the little bastard got in the pic.

It is bread baked in a pot. Over the coals. The old fashioned way. Make dough, let it rise in the sun, then into a greased pot. Top with cheese near the end.

You can vary it many mays, like mix cheese onion or herbs into the dough, top with coarse salt, pepper, garlic, olives etc. Damn europeans have forrgotten how europeans used to eat lol!

Take pics. I like goose. Your venison I assume is like kudu, springbok etc. It needs a good marinade or it is tough? I always cooked christmas. My x couldn't really cook. Sometimes I do it all on the braai, sometimes an oven. I don't like this modern thing of going out for christmas lunch.

Not tried Kudu but broadly similar to Springbok. Muntjac are everywhere and are tasty enough but fairly tough - the sort of thing to put into the grinder with some herbs, rusk and wine and turn into sausages. They are nice and small and manageable, if you don't need a lot though. The Roe and Fallow are nicer, much more tender, and still fairly common around these parts but nowhere near as common as the munkys. A mate stalks all year round and I also have a very good vet friend who occasionally has to put them down (vets are obliged to share it with the locals) so have a fairly reliable supply Cool

You will laugh harder when he hears a shot and meets his ancestors once he sets foot on the property.

I'd say most people here wouldn't want to step foot in south africa after your insight Thumbs Up
