Alright people,
just thought i would share my escapade today! Sad
Went to the doctors, sat in the waiting room looking out the window and i see a huge flock of birds, i sat there eyeing them up thinking i will take a photo of my bike with them for the bcf picture challenge.
But i got a text from my work boss asking if i could pop in before 12, so i went home straight away after my appointment, got to work and then realised i had left my phone somewhere, the pocket on my jacket that i usually keep it in was open, so i was just hoping it hadnt fallen out as i rode along! As i pulled back into the doctors car park i pulled in, still panicking hoping my phone was here, thought i had hit the stand down....
Whenever i park i really slowly lower the bike down onto the stand just to make sure its supporting the bike, but as i lowered it a bit faster than usual i just felt it falling, i couldnt hang on ... next thing i know im arse down with the bike on my leg ! Shocked My vara 125 isnt the lightest thing in the world and as i pulled my leg out my first thought was lift the bike up, as i tried i just heard the heart wrenching scrape as all i seem to do was push it ! so like a ponce i used the technique of the guys that pick up big bikes ( with my back facing the bike) and managed to get it up. Only been riding 3 weeks so was a bit of a shock!
I was panicking like fook. Looked at the bike and realised my top box and grab rail had took the brunt of the fall with the big scrapes here, i have made a small scratch on the panel and think i may have slightly bent the gear shifter pedal thing ! Embarassed
But i thought i would share it, lesson of the day: Always take your time !
Cheers guys ! ( sat here feeling sorry for myself ) Sick

I dropped my CBF in front of a bunch of family and friends. I was moving it by hand (i.e., not sitting on it) from one parking spot to another and tripped. The bike fell away from me, I tried to catch it, and the bike went down and dragged me with it.

Some people manage to go through life without dropping their bike in some stupid way, but they are in the minority.

Well, now you're in the club. Thumbs Up I laid my 125 down a couple of times, that's what they're for.

Also, I dropped a workmate's brand new Bandit - and I mean, showroom-to-office miles brand new. Made it good, of course, but I'll never live it down. Embarassed Wink

I dropped my baby varadero 3 times when I very first started to ride. They are heavy beasts and it is not poncy to push them up with your bum and legs. I found that it lies too flat to the ground though for this to be effective. There is no shame in asking for help.

It is upsetting, but is all part of the learning curve. Here's a droppety bike thread I made earlier:

As long as neither you or the bike are seriously damaged there's nothing to get too het up about. Topbox and grab rail are easy enough to replace if you feel the need Smile

I dropped my new bike for the first time today. Wheeling it backwards out of the shed in the garden onto the soft grass and let go of it. Luckily the grass was so soft all I had to do was pick the grass out of the crash bung, haha!

I haven't dropped any of my bikes (yet?). But I did once drop my instructor's CBF600, just parking up for my first mod2 test... and it was heavy as fuck to lift back up! I damaged the rear breaklight switch, but somehow my instructor managed to kind of fix it by the time of the test Laughing

There's nothing much worse than getting off your bike and hearing the sidestand flick back up, because you haven't put it down properly.

It's something you only do once.

PONCY? that is the best way to get almost every bike up off the deck without hurting your back ! ok lightweight 125's might be easier to lift than the bigger bikes but sod what it looks like. pushing it back onto its wheels is the way to go . And I have dropped a few bikes doing really silly things, we all do it from time to time, the worst was dropping my mates Hayabusa he had only been out on twice, going up hill in a straight line and have no idea why it went over. but a good three months later my knee still hurts from where it landed on me .

I dropped my bike on my car once. Try and beat that stupidity Rolling Eyes

I've developed a little routine/drill everytime I stop the bike. Ignition, off. Sidestand, down, extended to limit. Lean bike slowly until resting. Steering lock, on. Bum's relation to seat, off. Helmet from head, remove. Shop door, walk through. Crisps and beer, purchase.

i kind off dropped my bike... ish... well the side stand switch was switched off as even though it was up my bike wouldn't start.. so while waiting for the part i got warned to remember it..anyways i thought i would start my bike so it would warm it up while i faf about with my helmet and putting chain in topbox... so i turn it on.. and let the clutch out thinking it was in neutral (i put it in first as it was on a slight hill).. next thing the bike travels about 30cm and it has fell to the floor... not only that my helmet was sat on the seat.. and that flew off and landed on the floor.. after feeling sick to the stomach i eventually picked it up.. my legs felt like jelly becuase i was so shocked.. but in a way i was kind off glad i got it out of the way! ... only being passed for about 3/4 weeks.. i was expecting it to happen.. just glad there wasn't many people there! also someone reversed into my bike.. mirror snapped and top box was marked... luckily my top box saved my bike..in all cost 155 inc bar end.. and new clutch lever.. so worse comes to worse if i do drop it atleast i know it wont cost too much!

Dropped my TA the day after I got it. Damned thing is so heavy it started to go to the right at some lights, I compensated and then it went to the left, too heavy to hold so had to step-off and let it down as softly as possible.

First off since '82... Mind you, didn't ride between '87 and '12 Smile

We all drop one sometime. But a mate of mine really felt a fool 3 weeks ago. Started his Blackbird up in the garage, pushed it round, went to put the stand down but hit gear lever instead, said bird flew straight through his garden wall, destroying the wall and all his front plastics.
Boy did we laugh Laughing

Don't worry I've dropped my training schools bikes twice now.

First time, out on a lesson pulled up at a give way I think I went for the front brake and just went over. But, as the bike was going down I just kinda stepped over it haha.

Second time, pulled up at the test center while out on a lesson to fix another guys radio. Got off the bike and watched a bit of the Mod 1 practice. Got back on the bike and was thinking when were they gonna give me another practice of it, went to kick up the stand and it fell over with me on top. Fell into the bike and rider next to me, banged my shoulder of the bike, head banged into the tyre and I landed on my glucose tabs (I'm a Diabetic). Felt a right prat too, paid for it the whole week, my sides and shoulder were sore and had a bruise on my leg.

Things llike this happen to the best of riders.

Nearly dropped my first big bike I went to see.

Saw CB-1 on it's main-stand at the guys house.

He asks "you want to take it off the main stand"

me "sure!" *gulps*

Rock the bike forward, it goes into a lean to the side away from me...

Only at the last possible moment before I couldn't hold on anymore he swoops down and stops it's decent....

Obviously been there before himself as he still let me have a go! Laughing
