Been given some money to buy some used leathers, two-piece or one-piece. Obviously fit is important, so trying them on would be necessary.

Anywhere as well as eBay where I can look for some? Thanks.

I honestly think eBay, regardless of trying on, is the best.

The prices are low enough, even on brand name kit, that you can often buy 5-10 used jackets for the price of one new. Buy all of the sizes around yours when they come up cheap, sell/give away the ones that don't fit.

If we were talking 200 quid used, I wouldn't do it, but I paid less than 70 quid for both jacket and trousers.

Not sure there really is anywhere else viable other than trade shows and ads in the paper.

I would definitely reccomend Ebay for leathers.
I had to keep searching for a couple of weeks but ended up winning an auction for a set of Prexport leathers for £50 earlier this year.
Jacket had very, very minimal signs of wear and trousers were unworn.

ive bought both set of my leathers on ebay, i just measured myself up with a tape added a little bit on for comfort and then looked at the 3 nearest sizes (im a uk44 so looked from 42-46) any that interested me i emailed the seller asking how big they were (waist, leg, chest, height, weight) and how they fitted them, most sellers were more than helpful and both sets fit fine without me trying them on beforehand

How much money have you got?

What I've done in the past is to buy one that should fit but are a bit bigger.
Then get them altered to fit, which has cost me £100 or so per set.

So you get a set of made to measure for maybe £180 all in, which seems pretty good value to my mind.

+1 for eBay

I've just bought a set of ReVit leathers for £100, saving around £300 to £400 on new. Sure they stink like an ashtray and need a good clean but you can't argue with their quality and they fit fine. Just don't buy the first thing you see, be patient and be willing to re-list them if they don't fit.

Must agree for ebay, just this autumn got a practically unused pair of gearbox jeans for £5.99 delivered.
I actually felt guilty as they should've been £25 or more.
Bargains to be had for the sharp eyed and sensible bidder.

I found that the tip with ebay & leathers is to search by your postcode, as you can save around £10 by collecting.

There is often leathers that are collect only which also filters out a lot of non-local buyers.

Go to a bike shop and try the leathers on to get your sizings and then get them off eBay. My Dainese leathers cost £1000 at the shop when I bought them and I found the same used pair on ebay a month later for £500 :S

Just spotted some Scott leathers that I really fancy (GSXR written on it and the colours match my bike).

Going to see what the guy wants for them, as I don't do bidding. Might collect 'em Smile

Side note: Scott any good as a brand for leathers?

A very good point. When i'm in the market for gear, I go to the seller to see if they can match or at least come closer to the online price. At least they get a chance to make the sale.

For example, if a helmet was £150 in a shop, but I can get it online for £120, I'd ask the shop. If they could get it down to £130 or £135 I'd pay it. You're paying for that service.

At some point, these shops are going to disappear - and we won't be getting the chance to try things on Sad

But I saw a carbon HJC online, £99.. store wanted £249, I don't think they will match it Laughing

Lids direct by any chance? hehe.

I bought my partner a helmet for christmas. Was meant to be £55 but I got £5 off simple because the hemlet I was going to buy was out of stock in the right size. So I got a slightly better model with a fiver off.

I also use the same shop for brake fluid and now motor oil and anything else they happen to have thats needed.

Online stores are going to put these little shops out of business and when they do the world will be a worse place for it.

Ghostbikes have got a pretty damn good compromise. Its an internet mail order business, but at their warehouses in preston they've built a small shop up front so you can browse the most important stock, and anything you want to try on - they go and get out of the warehouse for you.

Its a very good business model and works well - best of both worlds.

My local business made the sale with me. The bit were I said I spent £1000 on them went all to the company. Also bought all my helmets at slightly more than I could of online from them. So I think I've give them plenty of money for now Smile Thumbs Up
