Well my mates getting a Gilera runner 180 and he says he can ride it with out taking the main bike test, I'm sure he can't. He thinks he can because it's a scooter, i told him to get a real bike but he just said i'm getting a Gilera 180 because i don't have to take my main bike test. Please prove me right and him wrong.

He can ride it probably. It will however be illegal if he does it on the road.

Hi

Yep, illegal to ride on the road and not even powerful enough to use for the direct access test.

All the best

Then you have to pass the full (or restricted) test to ride a bike over 125cc.

You can get 500+cc scooters, some of which are pretty chunky... but anything over 125 is a no-no.

How pedantic G Razz

As G says legally he can not ride it with out a full license (opposed to a provisional) on the road.

Accept it, some people CANNOT be helped, especially when egos such as getting a big bike are envolved. ive given up trying to tell friends what bike to go for. most have now decided to do impossible things just like your friend has.

those gilera's are nice things, if you want to be kind tell him to get the 125 version, im sure he wil be more than happy with it

No, NO, No, NO, No,NO AND NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Those things are absolutely crap! explain to him how shit they are, show him what an NSR an RS look like. probably still faster than a 180cc 4 stroke and look 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,001 times better than that bike! Plus he can be legal as well.

Explain to him that because it's 4-stroke it doesn't make it fast.

James

Respect from people and other drivers if u are on a ped is 0
u are public enemy no1 cos jerks who think a runner 172 does 120mph and piss around giving everyone who rides peds bad name.

i Had to deliver my old ped to the new owner and i was soooo suprised at how many people cut into my lane and didnt give way.
so dont get a ped, get a bike, ull get respect off MOST bikers and even a FEW car drivers.
once u go geared u never go back

those are 2 strokes by the way. For what you want and need ped is crap, but he isnt you. i know alot of ped riders, most dont want or need a bigger bike. If he wanted a geared 125, superbike wannabe then im sure he would be drooling over a mito or NSR. the fact he wanted to get a ped is a good indication he wants something easy to ride and cheap to insure.

I second that, the car version to a ped is a NOVA
Novas will race and think they beat a 350bhp car(i know has happend to my manager)
Ped boi=my gilera runner goes 120mph
Nova boi=mine has a K&N filter it does 150mph and 0-60 is 4 seconds

So because I own a ped I am scum? I do plan on getting a bike at some point as well as my scoot, but I bought it as a commuter and I have no need for a geared 125 to drive through city centre trafic to get to and from work.

That's a bit like saying "I own a robin reliant, and have no need of a car".

True.

Is he thick, why doesnt he get a half decent bike; ie Rs125 or Nsr125.

Its beyond my why someone would want 180cc in a ped. thay look crap and are prob slower that the 2 above.

they wont handle even half as well...

Rolling Eyes *sigh* i give up...Some people know nothing about bikes...

wave2k you are so right about the ped nova thing and that no-one respects a moped. I started out on a ped when i was 16 it was fun for a while but definately get a geared bike if you can. I went back on my ped for about 15mins a week or so ago and it wos absolutely shite. It felt i could walk faster than it. I gave my mate a race on his push bike back to his house (2miles+) and it was a good close race lol

I myself ride a ped but I'm getting a real bike in 5 or 6 months, most people don't like the peds because of how annoying the ped boys are on them, I ride safely and sensibly as so do other ped riders on here, it's the ones who are careless that give the peds a bad reputation.

If you ride a ped and show no respect to other drivers and riders don't expect to get any respect back, if you show other drivers and riders consideration and respect you will get it back.

i was also safe on my ped, but the sooner u get off it the better
i find riding a ped is more dangerous than driving a bike for the simple fact.
ppl dont give a shit about you

There is nothing wrong with owning/riding a ped. They do exactly what they say on the tin.

People who talk shit about the top speed of their ped would talk shit about the top speed of their NSR/Gixxer thou/Nissan Micra/Porsche GT3/Cessna/SR-71. That's cos they're wankers. Owning a ped doesn't make them wankers, they were wankers already. Thumbs Up
