Just before I detail the problem, figure I'd qoute you the "stats" of my bike, as it may help you advice me on the problem?
Quote:
Engine
Engine type 4-stroke, single cylinder, SOHC
Engine cooling Air-cooled
Displacement 124cc
Bore x stroke 57mm x 48.8mm
Compression ratio 10:1
Maximum power 8.7kW (11.8 HP) @ 9,000rpm
Maximum torque 9.4Nm (0.96kg-m) @ 8,000rpm

That is taken from https://www.yamaha-motor.co.uk/products/motorcycles/125cc/tw125.jsp?view=TECHINFO
Now, to my "problem":
I went out today, everything was fine, well except for getting a bug in my eye and having to pull over in someone driveway to sort it out before I crashed, but that isn't the point, I go to halfords, pick up some cleaning stuff for my motorbike and head home, now I am noticing that I am getting more power in my lower gears than usual, and by that I mean that in 2nd I can pull away a lot faster than normally (ie- when it won't go into 1st and I have to make a slow getaway) and my engine is crying to the gear shift a lot earlier than usual, by this I mean about 4-7MPHS sooner than usual, and where as usually it really complains in 4th at 60MPH I was getting the same kind of noise today at about 50-55.
And on the whole all the shifts are being needed alot sooner than usual in terms of speed.
And corners/roundabouts I would usually drop to 2nd to be able to pull away from without spluttering, I was pulling away from in 3rd with ease.

Now I know that the bike doesn't always stay the same in terms of speed/gear. But today it was really out, I was revving hard a fair bit before I usually would.
Of course I can't give you the revs I was doing because I have no counter, but I can assure you it was hitting its limit a lot faster than usual, which lead to earlier gear shifts and me riding home slower.

Hmm, when was the bike given a service/oil and filter change?

A lot of what you describe really could just be in your head or could be down to the engine been a different temperature (ie when its warm, not as much air is drawn in as when its cold. Or different oil properties at different temperatures etc).

If it hasn't had an oil and oil/air filter change of late I would give it one of them and simply see how things go.
