Hi Alll

not posted here for a long time but after some suggestions

currently own an 2001 SP1 - ive had it for about 5 years and loved owning it

rode it about twice in the last two years though

now im interested in swapping it for something i can do a few miles on 2up as my new GF is keen on going pillion

maybe something we could go to france on if we fancied

i was thinking maybe a Speed Triple, are they comfy two up?
maybe even a street triple, does anyone have any suggestions on what i should look at ?

Thanks

Ash

In short, no Laughing

I've got a sprint - which is the same engine, and bought it because of the engine, which I really enjoyed in the Speed but couldn't justify the Speed to myself as I do a lot of 2 up with the missus.

I like my sprint but I'm not totally sold on it. IMO, it's a good sports tourer but it does neither brilliantly. Yes it's probably the best handling sports tourer in its class but it's not a sports bike. Yes it's useable as a touring bike but it's nowhere near as good at it as the proper tourers are - the panniers are rubbish for space, for a start. It's too much of a compromise on both.

If you like the Triumph triples have a look at a Tiger - could be a very viable option for you.

Why not go for something like a sprint? It's got fairings (which you obviously like, given your current style of bike) and has much better long-haul potential than a speed or street triple, especially 2-up.

How much would you be looking to sell your SP1 for?

Please give me details, I long for another.

And if you do look at Tigers, definately look at the 1050 over the 800. The 1200 is apparently awesome also

They will be bringing out a 1050 Sport version in 2013 too I believe.

just had a look at the tiger, just dont like the look of them

ive owned

VFR400
R6
ZX9R
Fireblade
SP1

so always sports bikes, the street triple i liked the look of and never fancied a naked before
the SP1 is rediculous with a pillion for more than 20 minutes

to be fair the 9R was decent with a pillion but it was bloody heavy

In regards to arry's post about the ST, he is right in saying it is more biased towards sportyness than touring, but the new Sprint GT solves the problems that the ST has. Better panniers, upgraded suspension, screen, bit more room, comfier...

Aaah. You've blinged it up. Sad If I were to buy one, it'd have to be standard.

Have a go on a Sprint and see what you think mate. It does seem to tick the boxes you want ticked.

Did it actually sell for that though? They usually sell for between £2800-£4k for a low mileage original ones. Most sit at £3.5k I have found, after watching them for a long time. I got mine with 26k on the clocks for £2600 in March/April this year but it was a rather sorry example when I got it.

I can't say for the speed, but the street is utter wank for touring, you can't carry anything on it. I had Ventura luggage on mine, overpriced and too small and top heavy.

I have a 1200 Tiger with all the goodies and it's superb for touring two up but one hell of a different animal from your bike. Also there's no point in getting a bike if you don't like it. Laughing

Why not get something like a Deauville for touring and keep your own bike for the fun days. Yes hey aren't the most exciting bike, but they are a pretty good reliable workhorse.

Nice bikes. Does touring but not quite as well as the Sprint IMO.

Bearing in mind you're liking V Twins I also tried these when I bought the Sprint - they ride really well I just didn't like the engine

I'll swap it for my Storm.

About the same in fuel economy (Ie piss poor). Reliable (ish) Honda engine. V2 1000cc engine just less power to play with in top end speed.

But comfy enough 2 up as my nephew rarely complains when he comes over.

Aprilia Falco, The 1000 V-twin that you like but with good touring ability and pillion comfort.

My friend has one and has been all over europe on the thing with his mrs on the back, except when he took it for a few laps of the nurburgring and it has only had ONE fault in the last 4 years... A sidestand switch, hardly the end of the world Laughing

Quite a nice bike that - it was another I tried when I was last searching. I couldn't fit on it though Sad I don't think I'm overly tall at just under 6ft and I'm not long legged, but couldn't get my knees to sit inside of the tank
