...but more of a how much money to spend thread.

What it is, see, is that I know what bike I want eventually. A Triumph Bonneville. But with the cheapest Bonnies still asking around £3k that's not going to happen anytime soon.

So I want something in the meantime, mainly for getting places at the weekend when Mrs E wants the car, and the occasional commute. Something like a CBF 600, Bandit, Diversion, the usual suspects, standard, upright, mid power bikes. There's plenty of choice for just under 2 grand, some nice clean ones too if you look.

Or there's a bunch of 500cc tiwns available for well under a grand. Now they're not as nice, generally, couple of years older, been dropped, higher mileage etc etc, but seeing as whichever bike I get will just be something to ride while I save up for the Bonneville, is the extra grand worth it to get something nicer in the meantime?

Grand. Many bikes that were great in their time can be gotten for just around that price.

Kawasaki W800?

Parked next to one this morning, and it did look nice - in a 70's Bonneville kind of way Smile but probably cost more than a grand.

Hornet and Fazer 600's can be had for around the £1k-ish mark.
