I have very little ebay experience so would like advise on the following please:

I have won an auction on ebay.
The seller has no telephone numbers in their contact details.

The seller has pay pal as the only payment option.

I have messaged the seller through ebay asking them to contact me with some contact details so I can call and sort out payment. I still have had no response. It's not been that long but I would of thought the seller would be watching the auction end and then be itching to contact the buyer.
How lond should I wait for them to contact me?

I could just pay it all now by paypal but I don't want to do that as it is a fair bit of money so the seller will have to pay a high fee.

Should I just pay all by paypal as per payment option?

I don't want to not pay and then have my bid cancelled because I didn't make an effort to pay- I have no ebay feedback either so I am worried they will just think I am dodgy whereas I am not.

Thanks,

Chris

You've made contact as soon as the auction ended. You've showed willing, so sit tight and wait for a response.
I'd be quite appreciative if the buyer offered alternative payment to save me some fees.

Remember that if you pay outside of PayPal you forfeit your buyer protection. (which is heavily biased in your favour, btw).

You'll still have small claims and similar avenues if things go wrong but that's much more hassle.

Seller has requested PP so use PP. The fees they incur are not your problem.

Seller has 100% feedback on a few hundred items: a good majority sales.
Item value over £1500.

My other problem is if he does want cash it would help to know before midnight.

I can only withdraw £300 a day cash from a machine and £500 over counter without any notice.
I have two accounts with same bank, so if he contacts me tonight I could withdraw £600.
Another £600 tomorrow plus £500 over the counter- £1700 total. Which will just be enough.
If I dont withdraw the £600 today then I won't have enough cash to get bike tomorrow.
I don't want to be called tomorrow and having to explain I can't get cash today.

Is this something you are going to collect in person? If so PayPal just isn't the way to go.

If it's going to be delivered to you then I'd just PayPal it unless you've already been told otherwise e.g. in the item description...

Edit: Just seen it's £1,500... wait to see what he says.

I may be just worrying unduly.
I have had 3 bikes I have offered to buy go tits up in the last few weeks and I am getting tired of getting messed about.
I am an honest buyer with the money waiting for the right bike. I just could do without hassle.

You might be able to get more from your bank if you ask them.

I'm with Santander and their official policy has a low restriction as you've said.

I walked in with ID, bank statement, various other documents that prove my address etc and they let me take out 2K with no notice.

I have had the same luck as you and withdrawn a good amount without notice.
But, I have also been refused due to them being low on cash.

You can also go to different branches and withdraw the money well I did with Barclays when I needed £2000 out before.

You can request a seller contact number from Ebay by doing the following:

1. Click Advanced search at the top of most pages.
2. In the Members section on the left side of the page, click Find contact information.
3. Enter the seller's user ID and item number.
4. Click Search.

But you CAN phone them in the morning and arrange to withdraw the full £1500 after midday.

Totally, I took out a 5 figure sum, but gave them 24 hours notice Thumbs Up They said usually it is up to a grand over the counter provided it's there, but if you require larger amounts they will need notice, mine said 3 hours but I said I'll just collect tomorrow Laughing

What is it...

Track bike?

You say that, but I am with Nationwide who seem to be awkwared in this respect.
They say 2 complete working days so they can order the cash.

I have dealt with this situation with them several times over the years.
Sometimes you get a nice member of staff and they may have excess cash and it is fine to withdraw more.

More often than not they will not do it. I have been stood at the counter arguing this point before- even to the extent of threatening to close my account and hence have all my money. But still being told I would need to give notice for this - or at least wait this period to receive money.
This is with a current account also.

The bike is a KTM green laner.

If you don't mind sharing, what went wrong? Other forum-ites might find the experience useful. A lot of people hate the whole eBay thing, esp when it's vehicles. Sellers get fed up with tyre kickers and buyers get fed up with poor comms and damaged goods.

As for banks, well.......... Rolling Eyes

Few things that annoyed me recently:

E-Bay listing:
I had my bid cancelled from ebay by seller due to my account having little feedback. This is not due to me being dishonest just not using ebay much.

E-Bay listing:
I won- only to not have no response from seller and then days later be told they sold privately just before my bid.

Private sale:
I had agreed to buy another bike through a friend of a friend.
After everything was agreed and I was sorting insurance quote and planning collection (I even posted here about it in offroad section). The morning I was due to collect the seller backed out without good reason.
I think he either found a buyer offering to pay more or secured cash he needed removing reason to sell bike.

Another ebay listing I was happy to pay full advertised amount through dealer- I contacted them to give me a quote on delivery only to be told they had just sold bike. This I don't hold them responsible for but was still disapointing.

pain if youre in a rush, but just wait. i've had people take at least 24 hours to respond to each mail before after i've asked for address etc to go collect a van or whatever.

one bloke made me wait nearly 48 hours and then just said "send me your phone number"...

then didn't call for another 24 hours!

just wanted to point out.

paypal payment + collect in person = no buyer protection.

ONLY protection they offer is paypal + post or collect in person + cash.

Although i have NO idea how they can protect you for cash payments and collect in person.
