I can see it's a bit tatty and the price will probably rise by the end of the auction, but why is this so cheap? Is it just rubbish, not a desirable bike or is that bodywork not original?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VELOCETTE-LE200-1963-NICE-CLEAN-BIKE-RESTORE-NO-RESERVE-AUCTION-/281066676315?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555001%26algo%3DPW.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29%26meid%3D5855511135508557036%26pid%3D100010%26prg%3D1013%26rk%3D2%26sd%3D190791346125%26

Quite fancy it myself Embarassed

You either view it and offer cash in hand, or put in your bid 10 seconds before it ends. Why would you do anything else?

Velocette LE's tend not to achieve the higher prices that other Velo's do, generally because they are less desirable.

They were designed for the everyman, as a motorcycle that gave the practicality of a scooter (I.e. enclosed engine, you could wear your suit on it without getting oil over it etc.).

Personally, I'm not a big fan, but if you like it and want a classic, it's worth a shot. It might not go for as much as you think to be honest. Highest ive seen recently was about £1100 and that was for a decent condition one.

You'll have to change your username to Noddy!

Looks good to me, pretty standard looking Police issue handlebar fairing and radio box on the back.

There's a way of telling if it's a genuine Noddy bike, but I can't remember what it is.

Maybe the last three characters of the number plate may have a little bearing on the value of the machine Laughing

That's the velo that basically killed off velocette. It was slow under powered ugly and what not.

The only velocette that was the best in every way was the velocette venom thruxton! These now go for near on 20k and I have seen the price of them jump up from 10k back 10 ten years ago. Very sought after but an LE? No..

There was an odd Noddy bike left at the police garage when I started in 1972 left in a corner as it was used as a parts bike, according to the mechanics they were a POS forever in for repair to something or other but they were easy to work on.

Wiki say:-

Quote:
Ex police machines can be identified by the after market fittings for the police radio. These include the manufacturers data plate being moved to the headstock, the word 'POLICE' stamped under the generator cover and a distinctive V shaped pressing rivetted in front of the seat. This was designed to keep rainwater out of the battery compartment.
