I've been riding a few years now and the most i've spent on a bike is £1200, I'm getting on and I want to get a better bike soon. Aiming for a tl1000r for around 2k, which made me realise for the last 8 years i've been a right tight git with bikes.

Rieju RS1 Evolution - dad paid for this
Suzuki GS500e - £950 (insurance payout)
Suzuki GSX600F - £1200 (insurance payout)
Honda CG125 - free
Pug Elyseo 125 - £140
Yamaha YZF750R -£800
Yamaha Thunderace £500

Am I the only tight git out there?

suzuki gn125 £800
honda cbr125 £1500 (my dad helped with 500 so i paid a grand Wink )
suzuki bandit 600 £1195

The way I see it, bikes are unstable and can be damaged so easily at any speed. The cheaper it is to buy, the less shit I feel if I drop it Laughing

No doubt if I get a good career and good money I'll buy something really decent as I could afford the repairs. Until then I'm happy having something that works Very Happy

Na, suzuki gp125, $50. Suz. Gs850, $300, honda today, $210.
Then i stopped being tight and bought a piaggio zip for $2250!.
Ive spent very little on cars over the years, normally i pay scrap value and repair them. I did spend $2500 for a grown ups car recently. Too old at 26 for carpetless cars with missing trim and multicolor panels, hard to be taken seriously as a repairer of vehicles when you drive a shitter.

All of the bikes were road worthy, and needed only oil changes and adjustments. Bought from people that had parked them up after giving up on biking due to age, health or family resons.

The two most expensive and newest bikes I have ever owned both got nicked while 'chained' up Rolling Eyes When I get a different bike now I tend to stick to a budget of £1000 - £2000, I prefer to let someone else take the big hit on depreciation.

Hmmm. Never bought a bike more than 3 years old, which accounts for prices:

Vity 125 - 1300 (comprehensive insurance included, good thing as stolen)
PS 125 - 1300 (written off in crash, other car insurance paid out)
YBR 125 - 1200
ER6f - 3500 (YBR part exchanged against this)
SH300 '11 - 4000 (sold to GF for 2000 after several drops)
SH300 '12 - 4000

Actual net outlay, no more than about 5,500 over 4 years or so.

Having become an ABS fan with the SH300, I do not want to buy another bike without it, which limits how old I can go and still buy effective systems.

CG125 625GBP
CB500 1600GBP

Though, had I understood the reasoning behind 'winter hack', I'd have probably spent less on the CB.

The pretty looking lack of rust doesn't last long if you don't have a garage.

That's since August 2010.

I'm tight when it comes to buying vehicles but then piss loads of money up the wall on trackdays so I think I'm doing it right Laughing Always said I'll never spend more than 10% of my take home salary on cars and bikes...I don't think you need to, although I'm tempted by a kit car which might have to break that rule.

My MX5 was £1300 and my ZX6R was £800 and I honestly don't think spending 10 times as much would have got vehicles all that much more fun or suited to track use so why bother?

This is how I think of it really.
If I had enough money that it came to choosing 'bigger house vs bigger bike/car' I might choose the bike, but as far as I'm concerned, you don't get twice as much for twice the price.

I'd rather have two 1.5k bikes in my garden than one for 3k, you'd do well for spares.

Plus the other thing is that neither of my vehicles will have depreciated by a penny over the 2 years I've had them. In fact I suspect the ZX is probably worth more now than it was then.

Basically unless you are a bit of a tart then I don't see why you'd buy anything less than 10 years old Laughing
