Feel free to PM rather than reply in here.. but I just picked up a stolen recovered bike which has this attached.

It was nicked, knobs obviously tampered with frame, got caught. Owner came to impound to pick up and got it back. I have now bought from him as it is hassle keeping it on his balcony and I want an offroad bike.

Any info on that would be ace, it isn't just plastic, its got some metal piece inside which rattles a tiny bit Thumbs Up

We have something almost identical at work. It is just a generic safety / anti tamper seal . . .

That's just a numbered seal - the ID number is what'd it would be referenced to in the various property/crime databases. (PC Bloggs exhibits PCB/01, identified by seal xxxx).

Of no importance at all at this stage, unless by 'balcony' you mean 'the back yard of Maidstone nick'.

Nah was all legit as it were.

Reckon I could take the tag to the local police station, request details as I've just purchased the bike? Ideally I would like to know its current status as I'm going to road reg it.

Possibly, depends how much work they did to establish the identity of it. If they handed back based on description/VIN, chances are they'll not have bothered to doing many checks and, even if they had, it's unlikely that they'll release it to you.

If it's 'stolen/recovered', then that should be the end of their involvement, unless you're trying to see if it's still hooky according to their systems?

You could just rag it around a field and do some eavesdropping when they do the checks to give you the s59 :p

Yup, you'll have to defeat the real owner in single combat. Sorry, them's the rules.
