Hey guys.

Could anyone tell me if this chain is too loose? I looks very loose to me. I checked the adjusters on the wheel and the nut seems to be right at the end of the thread so i am not sure if i need to replace the chain or not.

It also seems to make a clicking noise when i wheel it along the road so i assume its hitting something.

Ive uploaded a video.

Thanks!
Scott

If that's the wheel as far back as
it can go then yes it needs replaced.

It looks a small bit loose. Don't forget that suspension travel tightens the chain, you need a bit of slack; better have a chain that's slightly too loose than one that's slightly too tight.

Clicking noise could be links hitting sidestand, or tight links sticking when going on or off sprockets. Probably the latter, if the chain has been neglected.

Try and pull the chain away from the rear sprocket, towards the rear of the bike (the 3 o'clock position); if you can see daylight between the chain and the sprocket, it's just about finished. The chain adjustment won't affect this gap; the chain links physically stretch, and daylight showing here means the chain links are longer than the sprocket pitch.

If the chain adjustment is at its end, it is probable that it and the sprockets need replacing. Don't replace just the chain; replace sprockets too.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah well the nut is just maybe 3mm off the end so i think it is as far as it would *safely* go.

Dammit, owell, may as well stick it in for a full service.

Cheers
