Evening all,

I uploaded a video with a soundtrack to facebook. It was immediately removed and a snotty "you've violated copyright law, look at all the kittens it kills" notice popped up (bearing in mind it's a home video of no commercial value and only visible to friends)

Anyone know how I can put the video on my FB page without falling foul of the broadcast rights nazism? I was thinking upload it elsewhere and link it across, would photobucket work, or will they take it down too?

Have you tried YouTube?

YouTube lets most soundtracks go, because they have deals in place with the rights holders.

Youtube will let it go, but you might have to put ads on your vid that the song writer gets the revenue from. That's what happened to my IOM vid.

Or compose your own/use rights free music.

In my experience, copyrighted music only results in your video being blocked in Germany unless you're very unlucky.

Depends on the content, the owner and the territories - there is no general rule for YouTube, other than music no workee in Germany cos YouTube wouldn't sign up to GEMA.

Yup, just saying that in my experience with a number of videos with a lot of songs in them, it only ever seems to be Germany nowadays. A year or two back I had a few that would only play in the UK.

The bigger issue now IMHO seems to be that certain copyright holders are dictating that they don't want their content played on anything but a computer (so no game consoles or mobile devices) which can prove very annoying.

Also, if anyone plays EvE and listens to EvE radio, one of the DJs put a clip of one of his shows up on Youtube. The algorithm that scans each video determined them drunkenly singing an improvised song was actually infringing copyright somehow! He is going to write a letter giving himself permission to sing a song he made up on the spot!
