This year's belated thread. Photos from 2013 only please, and try to keep them 1024px on the longest side for easy viewing/loading.

Thumbs Up

I have nothing to get you started this year, but I'm off to the peak district next week, so I'll bring some back.

I'm pleased how the last one turned out since it was taken free hand.

None at all other than what the camera did. I did change the color a bit. I have to admit to taking about ten shots to get that one.

I do like this EPM1 although the lenses cost way too much.

Will have to join in this year! If the weather is good tomorrow is might be perfect for a ride out on the bike coupled with photo opportunity!

Just bought a Nikon D3100 yesterday so hopefully I'll have pictures that are even half as good as these by end of the year! Time to get practicing!

Struggling a bit with this shot. Low light (40 watt bulbs at best in house) and using flash bounces of his fur too much (quite shiny).

Camera is a Fujifilm HS30EXR, finally got this one. ISO 100 and light setting too Fluorescent Light 3. Looks a lot less grainy though prefer the firsts composition. Any suggestions for removing fuzzyness and grains welcome as I struggle with this in all pictures inside my home in evenings.

More light, and correct focusing are the two best ways to remove fuzziness.

Pictures taken at high ISOs can turn out pretty well provided the focus is good, the level of light is good, and you've used a shutter speed faster enough to avoid camera shack.

If you're shooting indoors in the evenings, consider lighting your subject more.

Can you point out what you think's wrong with these?

To me they look really good, would like to know what I'm missing so I can improve my shots. Thumbs Up

Both just looks a little soft on my screen, almost like it's jumped focus on a shallow aperture and focused midway between the nose and eyes.

Always focus on the eyes in these types of shot IMO.

Top ones a bit fussy / grainy, mostly noticeable in the top left dark part of the picture and on the right on his body (lack of light).

Both of them are a touch out of focus, as Wafer said part way between eyes and nose. Thats more noticeable on the secound one.

like others have said, with dogs (or any animals), anything's ok so long as the eyes are sharp. people too, but with our flatter faces, the rest falls into place with the eyes.

actually scratch that, these are better examples

Currently continuous, trying too get that Jack Russel shot at the top was a challenge Very Happy

Never changed back when taking the retriever shots. Should go back too single or manual focus the Retriever. Far less bouncy than the Russ Smile

Which AF point are you using? The centre point is the most accurate.
