You have a full A licence with a 33bhp restriction, it's not A2. A2's a whole new type of licence thanks to the 3DLD.

I always say full licence unless there's an option for A<=25Kw, which there never is.

I know, but it's wrong. There's currently no such thing as an A2 licence.

Suppose it would be to much to ask to get a reduction in premium cost though.

At least it hasnt gone up either, so silver lining to everything and all that!

It's bleeping confusing.

A2 is currently a UK specific category of bike, not a license category. Pass on that type of bike and you get an "A <=25kW" license. If that wasn't confusing enough, when that license upgrades to full A, the DVLA will record a previous entitlement of A2 on your counterpart, even though they concede when asked that there is currently no such license category. Doh!

On 19th January, all of this changes. A2 will then only refer to the EU category of test bike (395cc+ 25-35kW <= 0.2kW/kG) and the real license category covering up to 35kW and 0.2kW/kg.

Given that insurers have had over 20 years to get to grips with the current system and most of them are still clueless, I shudder to think how they're going to screw up the new one. Just be clear on what license you have ("A <=25kW") so that you can explain it to them if necessary. Wink

Hey UW.

As has been said already, for now and the foreseeable future you just put your licence down as a Full Licence or Category A, since that is what you have, you've passed the full licence test and got your full licence, you just have a <=33bhp/0.16 kWkg^-1.

Although, just to note, when you insure something after the 19th of January 2013, chances are there will be an "A2" licence as it becomes a fully-fledged licence category after that date. Make sure you DO NOT declare your licence as that as that is not what you have. I think this may well catch a few people out in the future so just keep an eye out of for it.

Hope that helps UW. Smile.
