Anyone ever tried rigging up a quickshifter using the sidestand cut-out switch & a button instead of a conventional (and expensive)quickshifter?? just and idea, i was thinking of trying this with my 660xtx supermoto.

a mate is trying to do this on his, the only problem being a quickshifter 'makes' a circuit when it is compressed, if you wire it into the side stand switch you would only have ignition when changing gear.

'the only problem being a quickshifter 'makes' a circuit when it is compressed', I thought it 'breaks' the circuit ? another problem is getting a momentry button which breaks the circuit when pushed, instead of the other way round. Only reason i was thinking of using the sidestand switch is its there already, and its just a matter of wiring a button on the bars.

That's what we thought, but keep in mind that these are meant to go into a power commander, I suspect dynojet have designed them to stop people doing exactly this.

Interesting,Thanks for the replies Tom, i,ll need to delve deeper into this. I,ve heard of racers having a button as a kill switch, but really using it as a quickshift in certain classes where proper quickshifters are banned Embarassed

Look at what in in a quickshifter.
Now look at what you are trying to 'fanny' together from the kitchen drawer.

You will have a means of disabling the ignition when you change gear.

And possibly a new reliabilty issue to boot.

Quickshifters 'know' when to disable the ignition (or that is the effect). They are a seamless way to interupt ignition for long enough to engage the new gear. Sofistikaited in other words.

Anyway let's know how it goes.
Thumbs Up

Tom
1) My Facebook is set to as private as possible for a reason. Do not abuse the privilege of being able to see my content that I share. I post things in order to show friends what I'm up to as my other friends do to me. I do not post up for people to steal the pictures and post them in forums for every man and his dog to see.

2) How dare you call hours of experimentation and work adjusting and perfecting what I'm making, a bodge!

3) Not only are you wrong about relays being too slow. Your figures are wrong. 0.8seconds!? Nearing a second when your dealing with the times involved here. Fuck me! I can change gear normally in less than that. Use your brain and think about what your saying. For anyone who doesn't know They take around 50-80 milliseconds depending on how you time them.

4) Solid state relays do not cost a fortune.

5) You can't change your own oil. You thought injected engines didn't have sparks. And just yesterday you potentially wrote off a head due to the fact your incapable of simply changing a set of spark plugs. What on earth makes you think you're qualified to dish out advice and so called "info" to people on here.

Even more irritating is the fact you feel the need to come on here. Talk about what I'm doing, and then not even mention it to me. I do not appreciate googling a subject to research it and then finding someone talking about what I'm doing. Insulting it. And getting every fact about what I'm doing.. WRONG

Me a bike. If half the guys on here were as hot with bikes as they make out. You'd be out racing and winning or you'd be be doing this as a day job. Not sat at computer typing.
