Last night left my mates house and was next to tooting bec lido when my scooter started acting funny!

I has just bought this piaggio zip 100cc 4stroke on Monday and had it serviced on Wednesday and then it breaks down on thursday!

So called the AA at 21:30 and they didnt get to me until 22:50 so I am sat on the scooter waiting freezing my ass off.

Then bing it hit me at 22:35.................................................................................maybe i have run out of petrol?
So i open the petrol cap look inside the petrol tank with the torch from my house brick phone (samsung galaxy note 2) and move the scooter about and no sign of petrol or noise of petrol swirling about!

I sit there waiting feeling like a right lemon hoping that i have simply run out of petrol!

AA guy turns up then goes and gets me petrol then we fill up the scooter with petrol after 2 mins Hey presto scooter works!

My scooter ran out of petrol!
I have never ever FAILED so hard in all my life!
(bearing in mind i now know that the petrol warning light on the scooter does not work so not all my fault lol)

before its said "Brool story bro!"

Reset the trip meter when you fill then top up when you get near 100 miles or whatever seems appropriate.

Built up an RD250 last winter. Took it for a shakedown ride up to Rivi Barn, £10 of petrol in it at the start of the ride. Got to Rivi fine (about ten miles) Rode out feeling smug, got into Horwich (3 miles) it died.
Did all the usual checks, plugs out, electrical connectors etc...... Nope, not quite beleiving it, I loked into the, dry, tank. Jeezus those old 2 smokes sup petrol!

None of the warning lights work on my ybr for winter either, though it was really cheap.

Putting new clutch plates in this weekend, that's a whole £12 worth.

Worst of all is how much I enjoy riding the thing

Done this before... CG doesn't even have a light so the only warning is having to switch to reserve. Glad it wasn't anything worse though!

Reserve is the best kind of warning indicator!

Agreed. Saw MCN were ripping the fuel tap on the ZX9R because it was an ancient idea and they would've preferred a fuel light. Dafties.

IT's great if you are not on a dual carriageway doing 50mph + and it all of a sudden bogs down as you have run out of petrol on the main. Cue reaching down trying grab the switch to put it on reserve.

Took the words out of my mouth. I haven't pinned down its location that accurately yet so the couple of times it has happened I have had to pull over.

I have no idiot lights at only speedo and trip meter and a old fashioned fuel tap which is a god send compared to vacuum pump, reviews says for my reserve is 20 miles pushed that to 60 once.

and done that before down A610 70 mph and runs out que kangaroo jumping and scurrying around for fuel tap.

At least he looked in the tank without spending ages trying to bump it, pushing it up hills until he was sweating like a junkie with a giro THEN looking in the tank.

A bloke in a pub told me he did that. Embarassed

The Savage doesn't have a trip counter, I ziptied a knitting row counter to my mirror. I hit reserve around 95 miles, so I set it to the last 2 digits of my odometer minus 5 when I fill up; that way I know roughly when I should be hitting reserve again.

I once pushed a Velo six miles to my house, I had correctly diagnosed that it was suffering from fuel starvation but neglected to check the tank Laughing
