There are some very decent amateur / semi-professional productions. I go to those sometimes, can't afford the main stuff for the whole. Though I did see Rik Mayal on his New Statesman tour, which I guess counts as full price theatre going.

Musical theatre isn't for me, oddly enough, as I enjoy musical cinema.

I quite like it.
We tend to go 5 or 6 times a year. Either to the local performing arts college or our local library theatre to see a local theatre group perform their own plays/musicals etc.
It's amazing just how much undiscovered talent there is out there.

Used to go a fair bit in my early 20's, but it's kind of fallen off my radar now. Not sure why, probably more to do with having to venture into the shitehole that Northampton has become to go there.

Quite enjoyed theatre, ballet and even opera in the past. Not been for ages, same as afternoon tea.

Gilbert and Sullivan or GTFO. Arrow

Although I did once watch a production of The Scottish Play done in the style of Balinese dance-theatre. Trying too hard, I thought.

If you're tight, ask your local theatre if you can blag your way in for undress rehearsals, although you may have to fight your way through a scrum of drama stuuuuudents.

The globe is a good experience even if not fully understanding half of what so said.

We went to the National Opera House to see A Dogs Heart, very weird and bizarre Russian story.

https://youtu.be/4sh-RRWYgYg

Think War Horse but with elements of a naked man at the end of the first act.

Took the missus to see Priscilla on stage in Brizzle as part of her birthday weekend away. Was pretty fucking cool. Love the film, the stage version was pretty identical, really well done. And Jason Donovan was in it.

It was a cracking night...

I like it. I'm just down the road from Stratford and got to see a couple of plays at the RSC every year; it's a good weekend away with the girlfriend if you add a decent hotel and a good meal. I've seen more hits than misses there, Romeo and Juliet, As you like it (which I was saddened to discover was not about computers) and Macbeth were all superb. A winter's tale and Lear weren't done that well though, despite the latter being a favourite of mine.

For those of you lucky enough to still be 25 or under, tickets are a fiver (or a tenner, I forget which) and well worth giving it a go.

Used to love pantomine as a kid. Never been to any theatre type stuff.

Not keen on musical theatre stuff or musical films. Only musical film I can bare is The Wall which is just simply epic.

Finding ways to enhance the experience even more is also fun in its own right Wink

Went to see Wicked at Apollo Victoria last year for anniversary - was awesome I have to say. It's the only show I've ever been to so not sure if I'd like others or the idea in general - we are looking to go again at some point just not sure what to go and see.

I won't go to the theatre in case any cast member bursts randomly into song. Seriously, wtf are musicals all about?

I've been dragged to two. I didn't learn the first time - Cabaret which was completely shit and only redeemed by the amount of birds wearing stockings and Blood Brothers which I seem to remember was about scousers and also completely shit.

Parents used to drag me there at least once a month, when I got older I had a mate who was the projectionist (he shone the light a the stage) so I often got free tickets.

Now I have had enough, it's not for me.

Went to see vampire rock at the Stables on saturday.

I love going there as it's a small theater and you feel much more involved than with these huge Victorian monstrosities..

Not my sort of thing at all.

Also - the last time I went to the theatre I offended a cast member by emulating her impressive monobrow with my finger to my wife. Turns out I am not invisible, she saw my mockery and gave me a scornful stare of hatred worthy of Hitler.

I don't like the theater.

The place is riddled with actors for one thing and as has been stated, there is always the risk that someone will break into song at any moment.

Mrs stinkwheel likes the theater. I do not object if she wants to go with her friends while I sit at home watching beck episodes of Top Gear on iplayer while eating a kebab.

I like theater better than I like opera.

In any case, neither should attract public funding unless they are also prepared to subsidise my tickets to go and watch Batman films at the cinema.

If they can't make a profit on their own merits, they clearly do not have sufficient merit to be worthwhile.

Are you kidding?

I live near Hull.

We have the Hull Truck which is V good or the 'Movie' Theatres.

To put it more poetically/politically:

'A blot on the Landscape Bereft of culture or class'.

I was looking for Ballet one Christmas time to have a goosey at the auld Nut-Kracker or Swan Loch et al.
Nearest place for that would have been York but may as well make a big thing out of it and travel to Lahndahn or even head up tae Glezga (as we have culture in pail fulls there Ballet, Opera, Theatre etc.).
