PostPosted: 14:31 - 13 Jan 2013    Post subject: Mount iPhone to GSXR K7 Reply with quote

Hello,

Hoping to pick up my GSXR once the apparent ''snow'' has come and gone. I have managed to pick up a cheap iPhone 4 to use as a satnav with the tom tom app and also play some tunes.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas or have managed to fit any good mounting options. Dont want to spend a fortune but would like something ideally waterproof and can have the phone at different angles.

The ideas I have had so far are:

Option 1
- just add some 3M velcro where the suzuki sign is and velcro back of a water proof iPhone case with a square to stick it on either length or long ways. This guy has done it on another forum and apparently tested it at 120mph and also over speed humps without it falling off at all, but would vlecro be easy to take off the bike when it comes to re-sale without leaving a mark?

https://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/q704/joshsilverman/DSCN2426_zps1fbb4929.jpg

Option 2 - buy a motorbike specific mount but not so sure if A) anywhere on the handle bars have space for the mount or B) if it can be moved in different angles

https://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/q704/joshsilverman/T2eC16VkE9s4c7BQ8duM5BQ60_12_zpsb2586aac.jpg

Bot cost the same at around £20ish.

Any other options easy to fit and not too expensive?

Thanks,

Does anyone successfully use this technique?

I bought a mount similar to the one in picture two for my phone and found viewing the screen in daylight almost impossible due to the mounting angle.

Does anyone make a mount that will expand and grip inside of the top yoke tube?

I use velcro to attach my phone to the CB5 for GPS. It is very secure, but my phone cost me 20 quid. I wouldn't do it with an iPhone, but then I wouldn't buy an iPhone. So you might find that suitable.

Speedo on my CB500:

https://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j55/jrwestham/CB500.jpg

I stuck two squares on the tachometer. One in the middle, one below. When the phone isn't there, everything is visible. I generally don't mind not being able to see my tach when it's on there.

Secure at 110mph.

Make sure you find a place where wind won't come up behind the phone and lever it off.

Dual purpose useful solution. I have a 1 quid digital watch that I stick on there the rest of the time.

Also - waterproofing?
Sod that. If your phone can't survive a bit of rain, you've bought the wrong phone.

Don't mount it in a place where it'd end up forming puddles. Sorted.

You need one of those velcro arm bands where you insert your phone into a clear case.

Wrap it around your yokes, job done. Stays dry due to it's location and clear cover. Tested at well over 170mph and it stayed where it was.

G made one for me using an expanding wall bolt. That goes through the ball mount that came with my sat nav, and then then sat nav clamps onto the ball.

Probably wont be tarty enough for most folk though Laughing

I have bought the iPhone for the sat nav and using it as an MP3 player -got it pretty cheap.

Defo want to get a waterproof type case to make sure as they arent the best for realiability.

Thanks all.

Yes - https://www.ram-mount.co.uk/ do. Not cheap, but they seem to be pretty good.

I had a mount on my old Kwak that went in the yoke.

It was a while ago but the post can be seen here.

Whether or not they are still available or suitable I don't know.

Actually, CaNsA, I've used stuff sold by those guys before, and it's pretty good. I'm not a fan of the targeted spam, but I feel we may be a touch over-militant, especially with the accusations of noncery.

:edit: Thanks for withdrawing the paedo stuff. Save it for an actual bastard, not just the odd opportunist. It's not like BCF never gets the attentions of real tossers, after all Laughing

Does anyone know if it would be easy to remove Velcro from the bars as above on my first post?

Still seems to be the cheapest and easiest solution

What you need;

Stem yoke mount - https://www.telferizer.com/index.php

Waterproof case - https://www.buybits.com/Product/14065/5-Gps-Satnav-Case-With-Ram-1-Ball-Fitting-For-Ram-Mounts-sku-14065.aspx

Socket arm to connect the two - https://www.buybits.com/Product/3850/Ram-Plastic-Double-Socket-Short-Arm-Rap-b-201-a-sku-3850.aspx

Its the perfect solution. Take this advice from someone who's tried several iPhone mount solutions.

If the Telferizer turns out to be too expensive, there is this alternative, but its more fiddley;

And 2 other things.

The Ultimate Mobiles or Ultimate AddOns products are fucking shit.

And avoid things that clamp around the handlebars. Severely stops movement/angle.
