I got pissed off with crazy cold weather lately so I headed to town to see what I could do about it. Went to trespass and bought a complete thermal outfit for £15 down from £40 and bought XXL ski gloves from sports direct for £20 down from £50.

OMG I couldnt believe the difference! I covered 80 miles today and I was warmish. The tips of my fingers got a little cold but not painful in the slightest.

I put my summer gloves into my new ski gloves and bang no more painfully cold fingers! My Frank Thomas bottoms and jacket are pretty much completely wind proof so riding today was very enjoyable!

I feel like the weather isn't going to limit my use of my bike any longer Smile Just wish I thought of it years ago!!

Maybe you guys should give it a thought?

P.S using two pairs of gloves makes using your bikes controls slighter harder but its a small trade off!

£20 more and you could have had heated grips delivered. Then your hands would be even warmer.

Just saying.

I got some cheap xxl salopettes and ski jacket from Aldi a couple of months ago when they were on special offer. Work clothes, bike gear, then big salopettes and jacket over the top. Balaclava, two pairs of gloves and I am warm enough so far through the cold spell.

Yesterday my fingers was so cold the pain almost made me cry. I could barely move them! Just wanted to share my findings as its taken me all this time to work out a system to keep myself warm instead of thinking "ahhhh fuck it, its only cold it won't last forever"

+1 for salopettes. Great winter riding trousers. Waterproof and warm.

But see my thread about cock socks. I got very cold riding back at midnight from Oxford in nothing but thermals and uniform. Bring a spare sock is my advice Thumbs Up

Thermals from sports direct. Jeans, T shirt, regatta fleece (not one of those cheap efforts, this things thicker than thick. Lined textile top and trousers, zipped together. Gloves, boots with thick hiking socks.

Cosy everywhere last night coming home in -1 Wink

Mate do it, my pair was £20 and I cannot stress how amazing having warm hands after a 30 mile ride in this weather is!

Best £20 I have spent in a long time!

decent gloves and heated grips Smile the other one that works is stop every now and again and hold your glove open over the end of the exhaust, nice toasty fingers again when you put it back on

Yes, I've realised now that my heated grips do very little other than keep my palms toasty. I've not even been turning them on any more as my hands are just as cold without them.

Heated grips were the best purchase I ever made for my bike. Less than a fiver from china and were actually too hot, I had to turn them on and off all the time because they were burning my hands.

Well as it is below zero. I'm in the car! Some years I will ride everyday.

Last year I came off in the snow on the ER.

Went on the bike about 2 weeks before Christmas when it was below zero and the bike started accelerating by itself, as if the throttle was getting stuck. I had to use the kill switch a few times on my journey home.

So now, I don't care, I own a car, I have winter tyres on it, I will use that until the ice and snow has gone.

I normally just put up with the cold but now i'm on something that can reach 70+ it gets a damn sight colder on the old fingerlings, might have to sort from better gloves or something or take the heated grips off the 125 and put them on the hornet
