Evening guys and girls.

Last month I traded in my R6 for a Bandit. Wanted something a bit calmer to ride/commute. Big mistake, after one month I am totally bored and am thinking of trading in the bandit. Looking at a 2002 ZX636. Wanted to know if anyone has, or has had one. I read reviews etc which seem totally conflicting.
I havnt actually been to see the ZX yet, going tomorrow morning, anything special I should keep an eye out for? Are these carbed or fuel injected?

Thanks

Its probably more the sort of thing you are after.

Its not as manic as the R6 but has more grunt than the 600cc model. I get the idea that they are more comfortable than an R6, but manic enough to be fun.

A good all rounder is the usual description! Smile

I've got the last of the 599 ZX-6's which is the same as the '20 636 bar 37cc's.

It handles and stops bloody brilliantly and is comfy enough for decent distances and commuting. Its got a nice spread of power and pulls cleanly from about 2.5k right the way through. AFAIK the 636 gains a couple of horses at the top and a fair old wedge in the middle.

Just make sure the front calipers are kept clean and serviced - replacing the seals when they get fucked will cost you £90 for the parts alone.

I think it's still carbed; pretty much just a big bore for the previous model.

I also, like McJam owned that ZX6. I've also ridden r6's a fair bit.
For a road bike I'd take the zx everytime. It can do everything the r6 can do on the road (apart from tank slappers Smile ), maybe with a tad more effort required, but not much in it until you're on the track and then it's just that the r6 'feels' more at home to me.
For me the riding position is much better for the road; couldn't do distance on a r6 but was happy to on the zx6.

At the least it's definitely worth a test ride.

Well the bandits gone. Went for a test on the ZX Friday and bought it there and then.

2002 silver with only 4500 miles. Had it datatagged and the shop threw in a scottoiler.

It was advertised as never ridden in rain, don't know how true these statements are but its last service was 4487 miles and was done last November so it looks like it hasn't been ridden over the winter.

Already put almost 200 miles on the clock in the last 2 days. Looks like another trip to BoxHill today.
