Been around to the garage yesterday as I'll be needing a new front tyre in the next few weeks as I'm nearly on the TWI.

The garage I go to has a partnership with Michelin and apparently there is deals on at the moment...(not sure if he means Michelin or just in general)

Last time we were talking he was saying it would cost me the same to put Pilot Road's on my ER5 as it would to put them on something like a GSXR 600 which has bigger tyres.

I've had a look and Pilot Road 2's seem to cost about the same as BT045s in 110/70-17, Even better if I can get them cheaper with this "Deal" that is on...

Anyways, Back to my question.
Which am I likely to get better mileage out of the BT045ss or the Pilot Roads?
If it is only something like £5-10 difference between Pilot Road 2 and Pilot Road 3.. Would it be worth the extra, would I get more mileage out of the Pilot Road 3 than 2?

It currently has BT045's on both front and back at the moment but I doubt mixing tyres will make any difference on the ER-5 for commuting lol

PR2's and PR3's have pretty much the same mileage. I have PR2's atm but at the end of winter I'll be getting some PR3's. They're pretty much the same tyre, with the added benefit that they're much better in the wet, which especially comes in handy in winter when the roads are wet pretty much everyday.

Definitely worth the extra tenner for the 3's. As for the other tyres you mentioned, I have no idea.

The PR2, or PR3 is a much better tyre than the BT045.

The 3's are supposedly the danglies in the wet, but on the road you won't be able to push them to anywhere near the limit to notice.

If you can get the 3's for say £20 extra, it'd be worth it. Any more than that, don't bother. The PR2 is a good tyre anyways.

I had a Pilot Road 2 rear coupled with a BT023 front and was overtaking people on full wets in the intermediate group at Oulton Park not long ago. The PR2 was really good, easy to slide and feel the limit and didn't let me down but the front tyre washed out on the brakes so I think I might try the PR3's next time to compare.

I've got PR2s on my Hornet, and my OH has PR3s on her Zephyr. Both are excellent in wet and dry conditions and seem to be hard wearing too. I'd recommend the Michelins - they'll be going back on our bikes when the old ones wear out that's for sure. Thumbs Up

Only tyres ive found iffy in the wet were Supercorsa's cos they have next to no tread.

Everything else has been fine on the road. Depends more on how you ride.

BT45's are good tyres ( about the only bridgestones i like ), but they are crossply, so fairly old technology. Good enough for elbow down on my old XJ600 though. Laughing

I doubt youll notice much difference between PR2's and 3's. Both very good. I would have them over the 45's just because they are more modern.

Yeah I got told earlier when I went to price check... BT045.. biasbelted and since Pilot Roads are radial I can't have one on the front since I have a BT045 on the back.. Can't mix radials and crossply in that way.. Radial would have to be on the back...

I can get Michelin "Pilot Activ" though it seems and the guy who does training uses ER-5s and uses them tyres so that'll do me Very Happy
That's £77 +fitting (fitting will be free though)

Pilot Road 2 - £86 + fitting
Pilot Road 3 - £97 + fitting

Never bothered getting the BT045's price checked but they are £81~ from Wemoto in 110/70-17

Either way, Thanks for the input guys Thumbs Up
Karma will be delivered your ways soon Razz

I'm trying to find some PR3s for my GZ125, but I've never bought motorbike tyres before and I've got no idea where to get them.

Front tyre size: 110/80 x 16
Rear tyre size: 130/90 x 15

130 x 15" Laughing somehow I dont think you will find any decent tires in that size. I dont see any radials on here. Buy a jap 125, be stuck on chinese bias ply tires Laughing

Go to your friendly bike garage and say "Hi there, I would like to get some new tyres on my motorcycle, would you be able to price me some tyres thanks!"

My tyre-ing tyre story.
I ran OEM rubber on my BMW R1200GS 7k miles to legal min front and rear. I fitted Continentals Trail Attack which were rated (By forum Peers not bcf) as a good tyre for the GS.
I burned them to legal min after only 3500 miles.
But oh wot fun we had.
I would not wander far from the OEM spec.

Fast Bikes did a massive write up on hundreds of tyres end of last year. On track over three or four days.
It had never been done for as many tyres before. Dunlop let them have their test track and fitters in Spain for the tests.
It may be online or you can maybe get a back issue.
A handy write up even if you don't have a bike Very Happy

Rural Northumberland, there are no bike garages, let alone friendly ones. The closest I'm aware of is in Newcastle, which is a bit of a trek.

But if it's in N'castle you could get your hole while you wait. Thumbs Up
