GRRRRRRRRRR, just come back from a day out, driving back and there is this old geeza driving in front, so I put my foot down. Next thing I see is speed camera marks in the road, slam on the brake and speed drops. Crying or Very sad Look in my mirror to see (or think I see )the camera flash. Shite. Not a happy bunny, is it possible to get out of it when the NIP turns up? Or if it turns up? Two people drive the car both are insured?
Cheers

Recently experienced it myself bod.

3 points and 60 quid unfortunately although the Met Police were very courteous and even returned my license back by courier services as I said I required it for an impending holiday.

I don't know what the ratio is for actual films to cameras but the majority of them just flash and no record is taken so you may get lucky.

The details of the fine will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle (must be done within a specified time limit - 14 or 21 days possibly) and should he/she not be the driver then they can fill in the form giving details of the person in charge of the vehicle at the time of the alleged offence.

So it's feasible to ask a friendly (and stupid!) mate with up to date insurance and driving license to take the points for you Shocked although if either of you get caught I reckon you could be in a the dog dirt up to your eyeballs!

I thought the flash was infrared? You must have special eyes!

I believe it is the person who owns the car who would get the NIP and its their responsibility to say who was driving. Id wait until it lands on the NIP lands on the mat before you try to wriggle out of it.

i used to live off a main road just next to a speed camera

every other weekend when my stepdad used to kindly drop my son off when he was staying for the weekend

he used to say ive just been flashed by the speed camera again

hes 70 and still thinks he is driving a tank in national service
at times

he never got a ticket so there must have never been any film in that camera

not sure if they are different now but didnt they have to flash twice when you went through them for you to be knackered?

You thought wrong.

The flash on a gatso is the same as a normal camera flash.

As regards to the fine, you were in the wrong, don't try and get out of it, just put your hands up, admit the mistake, and pay up. You can't blame them when it was you who was driving illegally.

I suspect he was thinking of the Truvelo type speed camera (forward facing) which uses an infra red flash.

An infrared flash is just a normal camera flash but behind an infrared screen. Infrared is a very good illuminator for black and white photography. Get a camcorder with a black and white screen, wave your TV remote around in the dark whislt pressing buttons and you'll see through the viewfinder that the infrared being emmited from the remote is acting as a torch lighting the area up, but you can't see it with your eyes. It's used a lot in CCTV systems that can "see" in the dark.

Yes and an infrared flash is a light too.

The only difference is it flashes at a wavelength we cant see.
These are used in front facing cameras so drivers aren't blinded I believe?

the speed camera where i used to live flashed at cars speeding on both sides of the road

you used to get cars nailing it towards the speed camera thinking they wouldnt get flashed by it

had markings on both sides of the road and just one camera
