Hi all i own a tzr125r 1991 and it is currently red and white but it looks a bit scruffy so i am going to spray paint it. I am starting with the two largest pieces of the fairing (lowers) and i have dissembled them and thoroughly cleaned them. I know now that i have to sand them but what grade sand paper should i start with and then move on to and then move on to after that?
Could anyone tell me what to do with oranging and also how to wet sand. I know of these expressions and generally what they mean but i am still a little puzzled as to what to do with them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks for looking |

If it is just a little tatty and faded then a quick spray should do the job if there are scratches then consider filling them. Never done bodywork on plastic, only metal. But I imagine you could give it a light sand with really find wet and dry, then spray. Normal water and a little squirt of fairy liquid in a container, keep the paper wet all the time, sand large areas at a time going from the top of the area to the bottom, don't scrub it
It will be best if you rub down and spray the whole thing, otherwise it may look a little patchy! lots of thin coats, go from left to right and stop spraying as you reach the end. Don't pause, hold the can too close or apply it too thickly. On the next coat go up and down. I usually just leave the paint for a week, then T-cut it and polish. However it may need a clear coat, not entirely sure. I think Laura? and er Pheonix off of here sprayed their panels and they looked ace .
Take your time preperation is everything! if you rush the painting it will look shit! |
