He is not liked on this forum
Also, it's worth noting he had to replace the engine on that bike along with many, many other parts. ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

It sounds funny when you say it like that, but in all honesty, why not?
Ecologically unsound, perhaps, but stop and think about it, assuming you have passed all of your tests and so on and you are riding a lovely big boys bike, the last thing you want to do is crash it in winter and have to shell out to fix it. Not just expensive, but a pain in the arse and screws your NCB up.
Instead, why not grab something like a Lexmoto Vixen for £850, tax it for six months, pay the laughable insurance costs, do your commuting on it and flog it off in the spring.
Even if you only got £400 for it after a season, you didn't have to replace expensive fairing and so on on your pride and joy. ____________________ The Old Apprentice |

You are looking at them wrong. Some are better than the jap 125 offerings they were copied from. They do not cut costs in the same way. When chinese 600's appear, or even 300's, I think the reputation will change. Hoping they copy a good design, not another CG125 - that was the mistake.
When that happens, and you can get a 600cc twin for £2000 new, jap brands will be in trouble... forgetting they already are |

Add on the extra that you'll pay over the years in insurance because it won't be on the comparison site lists. Factor in that parts supply will be "Yeah, try a Kwak part, you might get lucky". See also the warranty.
£4500 will buy you an unregistered 2011 ER6, or a 2012 with 1000 miles. £4000 gets you a 2011 with 5000 miles.
Resale will be worlds apart. That cheap bike will end up costing you a lot more than a Kwak.
Still, they're running a WK branded bike in the TT, so who knows, someone might fall for it. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I agree Id never buy a jap or chinese bike new. However I assume eventually the chinese will be churning out bigger bikes like they do with 125's. If they have several companys competing then prices will drop. A 125 costs £600 OTR, I think they can make a 600 for £2k. They are making 150, 200 and 250's in the same frames but they are not imported.
Really, its just the engine. Id be happy with a 400cc single lump in my 125. 600cc, maybe would want to swap forks for used jap ones.
And once that 600 is used, it will be £1k, and Ill buy it when 3 years old at £500 |

I bought my Vespa px125 for £600, used it daily in all weather for 6 years without having to replace any major components, serviced it myself even though I'm a mechanical re-tard and sold it last year for £600. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

The Chinese do make some "interesting" bikes that are not all 125's
Farspeed make and resell others
Something that looks like the old Ninja 250. $1,000 (£630)
As do Ningbo
A 400cc cross between a Triumph and BMW for $2,000 (£1,260)
Trouble is, well, there are loads of troubles.
Some only ship in units of 10-70
The vehicle needs to be of a registered UK/EU type if you want to get insurance.
Quality Control
Spares.....although if you bought 10 bikes, that might not be an issue
It can be done. AJS did it. This is Regal Raptor the company behind many AJS bikes.
The DD125 is around £1,800-£1,900 here
From Regal its £630
In fact, Regal have had a 320cc bike for a while that I like the look of
Called the SPT35 and its $1,800 or £1,135
AJS have just added it to their lineup
https://www.ajsmotorcycles.co.uk/new_AJS/docs/main.htm
UK Dealer prices are around £3,000 to £3,400
Not bad markup. |

It's a bloody nuts markup if you ask me.
AJS price for a JS125 is £1500
Jianshe price (from learner legal) is £850
Did they spend £650 on new badges or something?
Chinese bikes at the quality they are currently at, even the better ones like Jianshe only make sense if they are significantly cheaper than a Japanese one. AJS must be selling the bikes at about 200% of their buy price...I can't see them selling that many at all...
The WK 650 has the same problem. They have imported it from China where is it probably about a grand or something and then pricing it like a Japanese bike. I'm going to go find it on Taobao or Alibaba and see how much they are in China now...
edit: The CFMoto 650NK is 37500 yuan in China. So about £3800. They really are going for the high end market over there...I expected it to be a LOT cheaper than that to be honest... ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed
Fixing: Also the BMW as I get less broken bits
