right, i've got a zzr250 and i need to add anti freeze coolant to my radiator/engine.

is there any specific coolant to use? apparently some can eat at the aluminium gaskets? i've got some asda anti freeze and it says on the bottle it is corrsion additive free and such but only suitable for certain engines.

Quote:
Summer and winter formula gives all year round protection.

Ready for use.

Freezing point -17°C.

Boiling point 105°C.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

Asda Anti-Freeze & Summer Coolant is a ready mixed methanol-free formula suitable for use in most engine types.* It helps to provide your radiator system with all year round protection against winter freezing and summer overheating. It also contains anti-corrosion additives which will help to protect your cooling system from rust and corrosion. Blended from Anti-Freeze which meets BS6580:1992.

anyone got any input?

and next question, how much should i add, and should i empty the water out the radiator first or just add the anti freeze through the cap?

Thanks

Any coolant containing silicates are the ones to avoid as they can damage water pump seals etc.

You're probably best off completely flushing the whole system and replacing with new coolant, as you don't know how long the current stuff has been in there for.

well i've actually had to empty it when doing a repair, at the moment it's got pure water in it, it's been sat in the garage for a good for months after the repair.

so should i still flush it knowing it's only got water in it?

Yes definitely, especially with the current cold temperatures.
You don't want pure water in there as its not offering any corrosion resistance and could be prone to freezing and causing some expensive damage.
